Because of this post :salute: I downloaded five episodes of season two 5,6,7,8 and 9, not sure what episode you up to in the USA  Really liking this as we here in the UK just don't have guns :( They do some cool stuff in this show, its one I'll be watching :tu:
Well, let's see...between my father and I we have a muzzle-loading Enfield, a Snider, a Martini-Henry, a Martini-Enfield, three SMLEs, a No.5 jungle Carbine, a P.14 Enfield, and two Webleys. No wonder you don't have guns in the UK-we have all of them here in our safes! :P

Around my parts that's what we call a beginners set.  :D   :pok:

And the last time you handled a Martini-Henry was......... ;)  Those were just the British pieces. Had the comment been about Italy I would have listed out Carcanos ( I rather like the Carcano, very underrated rifle). There are numerous Mausers in our collection (my favorite is the 93 Spanish), along with Arisakas (Type 38, Type 99, Type 45 "Last Ditch"), Krags, my Schmidt-Rubin, a Ross (which I will NEVER fire), Mosins, various Springfields of different models.....My father passed beginner before I was born, and I've added some very nice pieces of my own to the set. Hell, my mother has an M1 that she used as a match rifle for years!  But come on now, this is a multitool forum, not a multi-SHOT forum. :)

They're all British Army rifles from different eras. The Enfield muzzle loader was used heavily in the American Civil War. The Snider was the first British breach-loader. The Martini-Henry replaced the Snider. I wanted a Martini ever since I first saw the movie Zulu, and managed to find a beautiful one at a gun show a few years back. The SMLE is usually known as the Lee-Enfield, and the P.14 is another World War 1 weapon. Thus endeth today's history lesson. :)

I know, Cap'n, it's all good  :D. And yes, antique military rifles have always fascinated me. The Spanish Mauser I mentioned above was the first rifle I bought on my own. What I find neat is thinking what history a particular weapon has. Where did it serve? Who carried it? Shooting something like a Martini-Henry also involves handloading. .577-.450 ammo isn't exactly something you can find at the local gun shop! The engineering that went into these pieces is also fascinating, as is the lack of it at times-The Canadian Army's Ross could be field stripped and then put back together in a way that the bolt wouldn't lock but could be fired, throwing the bolt straight back and killing the shooter!

As it happens I have shot a Martini-Henry myself.  Lovely bit of British engineering.  Harping back to the start of the thread I've even shot a couple of rounds from a .50 Eagle (I wasn't in Britain at the time though  :D).

I warn you guns are just as addicting as MT'S, but more expensive and ammo isn't cheap either.  :ahhh
