1971 alox?
on: November 26, 2011, 06:09:25 PM
Did Victorinox make a 1971 alox soldier or equivalent? Looking for something in my birth year. Any suggestions? Thanks. Yeah I know I'm old lol.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Yes, I bought one for my brother a few years ago for his birthday.

Vic didn't make them in '72 or '74.

Wenger models are available for those years, although they can be a bit harder to find for some reason.

The usual sources... stay in touch with the Cat Man, keep watching eBay and EDCSource, ask for help here on the forum....

Stick with it, sooner or later you'll get lucky.

'71 seems like a popular year- I should ask my brother if he wants to make a few bucks!  :D

Ok. Stupid question. How do you tell if it's a '71 model?

That one has seen heavy use though. I wonder how many years it was carried? Yeah, I know from 1971.... ;) It seems it might have been a main knife with the blade being sharpened on a narrow stone with a bit of tip damage. Perhaps a main or the only pocket knife for years. Glad to see it got used, but a shame the blade is worn that way.

If I had to chose for the same price, I prefer pristine, but if it is a bit less, used is usually fine, then I do not mind using it myself! :D I prefer my type of use though, multiple knives so none get worn too much.

Thanks for the info on the 72 and 74 not being made by Vic, since 72 was the year I graduated from high school I might have looked for one, although Wenger would be fine and they made them. If they are scarce though that implies the price may be higher than I would be willing to pay.  I did get a 76 the year I graduated from college and could have gotten a 79 (when I graduated from law school) at the same time, but just could not justify the cash then, and even less so now. Probably just as well, but a slight regret. Really though I enjoyed getting one from the period to see what I could have carried then if there had been more general availability. Perhaps there was but I did not notice it.
