What’s A Good Litter Box For Cats?

Uuuh, ok round #2,, where to start,, I’m looking to get a new litter box, it’s ss and an everyday thing,, as some of you might know we had to have one of the cats down last week, but I’d like to get an easier box, we used to have one where you rolled it both ways and everything just sifted and fell into a trough with a handle on the end and well, piece of cake, but their box is in a very small closet, so yeah tech their own bathroom, lol,, yeah they have those automatic ones but we tried one and the only one that would use it was the little guy, plus there so freaking expensive, here’s a pic of one I was looking at, it has two trays and the sift, plus it ss so fits the Mrs category, they have other ones but they only come with one tray, so yeah you sift it, but then you have to dump out the pan in order to put the sift back in
but then they have the upper part which is nice and has that spot where they can wipe their paws(yeah that one’s for pellets, which we’ve done and might go back to), oh well I fig I would ask, any thing easy? I’m just tired of scooping..

This is not exactly what you asked, but we use - well, actually kitties Uncle Rico and Rhonda - use the cat box linked below. We have two of them. What I like is the high sides, so kitty litter doesn't get thrown all over the place.
In terms of scooping, I have found that if you keep the kitty litter/sand deep, the waste never adheres to the bottom of the pan. This makes scooping easier. I have not had good luck with the version where you lift the entire screen out to catch the waste. Its too unwieldy, at least for me. I prefer to manual scoop.

Uncle Rico a few months ago. He is now much bigger. Mrs. Powernoodle wants to give him away, because he bites her (playfully) like she's a giant mouse. I whack him when he tried that, and he never bites me now. He doesn't bite anyone else either. But she won't whack him hard enough for it to sink in.

I guess no one else has cats, unless everyone uses the automatic plug in ones,.

I sue a simple plastic 'tray' type for mine. I give it a shake after he has peed and change it when he poos. He seems to like it so that takes preference over my views. I guess it comes down to what your cat prefers.

it depends on the situation.
some cats don't like enclosed boxes (we had to remove the flap for one of our cats)
placement is also a factor, is it in the open (odors affecting you in the room) or hidden away in a utility room/bathroom.
I've seen a number of clever hidden in cabinet designs that allow you to have an open litter box, in an enclosed space and thus more restrictions on litter straying outside the cabinet.
For us it was trial and error, and we had multiple boxes for multiple cats.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I got cats.
2 of them, and they don't have a fancy box. We got them a plastic box that fits perfectly between the toilet and the cabinet in the second bedroom. It's my duty to scoop it out every morning.
I can't remember where we got the box but the litter scoop came from the dollar store, back when everything was actually a dollar.

I've had the best luck with the simple big plastic tub models. You want high walls so they don't kick everywhere. Better to go bigger than you need. Our current cat was a "percher" until we started using the liners (which are basically just trashbags). They awlso make clean up a bit easier.

The door to outside.
We had dogs, cats, fish, turtles growing up. We always let our cats outside. They know what they're doing. One of our cats lived to 21 years that way and we only needed an inside box for her last year of life when she was having trouble getting around. 4 litters, 21 years, a missing fang and a bent over "dog-eared" ear. Miss that cat. She used to bring my parents tribute gifts of fresh kills or even mostly dead birds and lay them out right on my parents bed.
She would fight off dogs. She would even walk with us to the bus stop. At first she would wait. When she got the idea how long we would be gone, the neighbor reported to is that the car would return to the front porch and guard the house. Then, when her internal clock said so, she would leave the house. When we got back to the bus stop, she was there to escort us home. What a cat.
