Anything I should be looking for while in Switzerland?
on: December 15, 2011, 08:04:43 AM
Are there any SAKs I should keep my eye open for while here in Switzerland on vacation?
I think I saw some Vic Classics in Edelweis print...that's new (to me at least).

Don't buy SAKs that you can buy in the States, I don't know why but SAKs cost more in Switzerland. But if you are willing to spend a lot special edition SAKs are good :)

I would head to the flea market of each town and look for good oldies.  Then when I got back I would send one to the guy who recommended this to me.

Flea market is a good idea!  Thx. I'm in a touristy town and the only thing I've seen in shops (that is not found on the Vic website ) is coloured alox Classic (keychain) victorinoxes.

R those rare?

and for the record I'm here with the wife and son...and I spent he other nite by the fire with my LM Wave + Vic Voyager Lite putting together an old skool wooden toy truck for him. I felt like one of santas elves! Pics to follow 😃

While your there pick up a bunch of old beaters then sell them here. Alox is always popular at MTO. Anything that's limited edition or unusual is a good option. As always make sure to take lots of photos and post them here.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Colored Textured Alox classic in Red is hard to get here.  The others can be a bit hard now, they have come and gone.  Black is still not too hard, and green I believe.  Were talking the standard colors and the 2007 Euro colors here.  Anything else would be good to get.

Check different stores for SAKs made just for them maybe nice special logos or colors if not tool configuration.  The Yellow Swiss Post knife is nice.  If you can visit the Victorinox Factory store you might find something very nice.

.... and for the record I'm here with the wife and son...

That's OK; you can bring back any Chocolate, Cheese or Maidens you can't use... they will be much appreciated here.

ps... just been alerted that the Mountaineer-Lite is difficult to come by, so that might be interesting.

Here's some pics of stuff I've not seen anywhere else. (excuse the blurry ones...trying to shoot thru glass in a dimlly lits store with a point and shoot (boo!) – but those one has some swiss nature scenes printed on them, done by Vic).

Little Sharpener (note Vics being sold at a grocery store!  :D

I'll buy one of those William-Tell knives with the ruby scales from you and the 3 different colored Classics with the cows if you want to bring them back.

Those colored Alox Classics are the Euro colors and they have been available here in the US, but might be a little hard to find now. They are very nice, but not impossib;e to find in the US or order from abroad and have them shipped here.
