I posted about my Smoke and Mirrors Tool EDC before
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,33778.0.html but I thought I'd share my updated version since I've been a sheath making factory as of late.
I was working as a production assistant on a commercial last week and I was using the sheath I made, after using it for 2 days, I was missing some key elements that didn't occur to me when I made it. Nothing overtly noticeable but it was mostly the USE of the sheath and items.
Tatoosteve99 was awesome and got me 2 pairs of Fiskars Shopbosses (which are unavailable in Canada, review to follow) so I decided to give them a whirl in place of my modded Surge shears. They were quicker and faster to use and the cutting force was much better, not to mention COOL factor.
Here's a shot of my selection of tools:
-16' compact tape measure
-Fiskar Shopboss shears
-SRM B710
-2 x Olfa Classic Cutters
-Cheap carpenters pencil
-Leatherman Bit Kit (with key bit selections...Robertsons)
-Brinyte AAA flashlight (this is a bit finicky, so I may swap it out for another more reliable light)
-3 x Sharpies (you can never have too many marking tools)
-My beloved BOrrage (Modded Surge with BO ST300 plier head and OHO blade exchanger)

Seeing how I was making sheaths like crazy I decided to make myself a special SkinthXL
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,34242.0.html with some premium PU coated 1000D Cordura and add a H&K style gate clip on the bottom. You'll see why soon.

Load out:

The reason for the H&K Clip is that I wanted to reduce the amount of pouches on my belt, so instead of having a separate paracord loop for gaff and duct tape, incorporating it into the MT sheath. One side of the loops stays stationary and the other side clips in and out for removing empties and trading up different types of tape.

Next up was to solve the problem of caryng multiple cutters. My last sheath only had space for one cutter and I was using a separate sheath for a single. Creating a sheath that would hold both Sharpies and the Olfas was the trick. I call it
The Duelist.

I added ridiculously bright lanyards to an already bright tool, since they seem to want to walk away on you. Not this time Gadget.

Now that I've solved almost all the major problems, the last one is how to carry a large pair of shears and being able to retrieve them with quick ease. When using the modded Surge bird shears, I was slowed down by open and closing the tool, so a dedicated pair of shears that was spring loaded was perfect.
I took a cheap magazine dump pouch you can get on ebay from Hong Kong for less than $10, and repurposed it as a tool dump pouch. The material is a heavy 1000D nylon backed with PVC and lined with a flimsy ripstop nylon. It naturally has Molle straps so it was easy to adapt to a belt.

Worn on my left side (the other two pouches worn on my back right 1/4), it can be swung behind me. I can dump any tools I am using in there if I don't want to resheath them. The Shopboss and the tape measure have a permanent home here. There is also a plenty of space in the front pocket for more sharpies and marking tools.

I gutted the flimsy nylon on side exposing the PVC. I flipped it inside out and added a patch of leather on inside and flipped it back. Now I can drop in the shears without worry of busting through the nylon. I left draw string flange to provide a little bit of coverage for whatever I chuck in there.

For size comparison, and how they sit on the belt. I use a SWAT/Police duty style belt, its stiff and very robust. Keeps the pants up when carrying all this stuff.

So there is it, my updated Smoke and Mirrors Set Tools.
Now to go destroy and build worlds.
