on: January 06, 2012, 08:43:09 AM
What Would Be Your Perfect SAK, Knife, And Multi-Tool?

What Would Be The Perfect Combination Of Anything And Everything Be For You?

My Knife:

Stone Washed Titanium Frame Lock, Flamed To A Pretty Finish.
Blue Or Black/Blue G-10 Scale.
Titanium Pocket Clip - Also Flamed.
It Would Also Probably Have A Sheepsfoot Style Blade. Plain Edge.
Oh And To Be Around 8" - 9" Overall Length.

My SAK:
One Hand Opening Blade In Premium Steel.
Plain Edge.
A Second One Hand Opening Blade In Premium Steel.
Fully Serrated.
Blue Alox Scales.
Flamed Titanium Liners.
Small Non OHO Blade.
Scissors.
Pliers.
Magnifying Glass.
Saw.
Awl.
Pen.
Pin.
LED Flashlight.
Phillips Screw Driver.
Nail File.
Can Opener.
Bottle Opener.
Corkscrew.
Hook.
Other Screw Drivers.
Toothpick And Tweezers.
And I Think That Covers It.

My Multi:
Pliers.
Scissors.
One Hand Opening Outside Blade. Plain Edge.
One Hand Opening Serrated Edge Blade.
Handles Shaped Like The Leatherman Freestyle Or Leatherman Skeletool.
Blue Carbon Fiber Handles.
Saw.
Nail File.
Bottle Opener.
Can Opener.
Screw Drivers.
A Bit Driver With Just About Every Bit Imaginable.

And I Think That Nearly Covers It Lol.

Perfect Sak: Alox Pioneer with Scissors. And I have that.

Perfect MT:  Vic Spirit with perhaps an OHO blade.

Imaginary dream SAK:

A farmer, with:
Hook
Small blade
Integrated firesteel striker (possibly via a second awl, or electrician's blade?) (I know the back of the saw can do the job, but not very well)
Scissors
T&T

And I'd probably want two of them so I can feel OK about using/abusing/losing the first.

seriously though, any modders want a challenge?

I'll bypass the SAK question for the time being, but

MT:

Charge with:  Hammer ala Mjolnirman
Lose the can opener and replace with awl
Two bit drivers
Lose the mini bit driver
Add the chisel-y blade thing from the Vic Spirit.

Some Great Ideas. I Know I Go Over The Top, But I'm Imaginative Lol.
And I'm With You On The Explorer Zed. But I Still Think It Needs Pliers.
I Really Wish I Could Fit All Three, Knife, SAK, Multi In One Compact Package But It's Just Impossible.

So I'd Have To Have All Three Lol. And When It Comes To Carrying An SAK It's Either Thick With A Bunch Of Tools Or An Alox Which Is Thinner With Sufficient Tools. Hopefully I Can Get Ahold Of A Freestyle Or A Juice Or Something Similar Soon.

I Got them I believe for my needs well several depends what I am doing or where I am going ( Hiking Camping etc ) Scouting they get loads of use.

SAK  Workchamp or Swiss Army New Soldier

LM MT got to be any of the Wave/Charge/Ti or TTi range  or Surge/ST300/Core

Lighter weight for Hiking easy:

SAK Alox Farmer or Cadet

LM MT would be Skeletool CX or Skeletool with back up of PST II or now Sidekick/Wingman

Do You Have Any Multi Tools Larger Than The Leatherman Squirt P4 For Trade RayRay?

I'd Really Like To Work Something Out.

Especially If It's Similar To:
Leatherman Style PS
Leatherman Freestyle
Leatherman Skeletool
Leatherman Juice
Maybe A Leatherman Mut Or Some Others.

For me...

Perfect MT: Vic Spirit (it would be more perfect if it had a bit longer more needle-nosed plier head)
Perfect Knife: Hinderer XM18 Flipper, Zero Tolerance ZT0551 or Spyderco Endura G10 FFG (perfect in their own ways  ;) )
Perfect SAK: Vic Alox Cadet or Pioneer + a Classic or Rambler
Perfect Light: 4Sevens Quark Mini123

Awesome. I Agree That Certain Knives Are Perfect In Their Own Ways And In Knives Of That Stature. But If I Had To Chance To Have ANYTHING, I'm Pretty Sure What I Described Would Cover Me.

I think the REBAR is going to come close to my perfect MT.  I think if it had scissors it might just be the one.  Still gonna buy two!

As for the SAK, let me get back with you!

Hahaa...

Yeah, I've never been a stickler on OHO blades on my MT's since I always have a OHO folding knife on me anyways. Even on my Wave, Charge, Wingman and long lost SkeleTool, I never really felt I needed it. Partially because the thumbholes that are used are poor designs IMO. Maybe I'm spoiled by my Spyderco's large thumbholes which are easy to use even with gloves on. I'm not a fan of the oblong thumbholes even on my Buck Vantage Pro which is a fantastic knife albeit with an oval thumbhole and why I don't carry it as much as my Spydercos. I even prefer thumbstuds over the oblong holes. I guess I wouldn't complain if they made the "butterknife" on the Spirit OHO as long as it was done right like a cutout in the handle and a thumbstud similar to many of my folding knives and the SOG PowerAssist.

Mine would have to be:

1. Leatherman Charge TTi

2. Vicorinox Huntsman SAK

3. Cold Steel Trail Master in mirror polished San Mai III steel

*If I had to pick a "folding" knife, I'd say.... the automatic Buck 110 Folding Hunter w/ S30V steel

I like the Charge TTi. Its pretty much perfect for my needs. I could go for a 154CM serrated blade w/hook, and ditching the can opener for awl would be cool. I'd see if I could mod the can opener tip into an awl without losing can/bottle opening function.

SAK:
84mm with Ti handles.
Large fully Serrated blade
small PE blade
saw
scissors
bottle & can openers
tweezer & toothpick
backside could have hook, awl, and cork screw.
