The SkinthXL (LM MUT skinny sheath)
on: January 04, 2012, 11:08:09 PM
This is pushing the limits of what a 'skinny' sheath is. Seeing how the MUT is super large to begin with, it deserves a XL home. The sides are covered by a 1" flaps and there is an integral elastic banding around the whole pouch.

The largest of The Skinths, the SkinthXL!

Load out:
Leatherman MUT, bit card, Ultrafire A2-R5 Flashlight, and SRM Tan G10 763.

Testing a borrowed horizontal and vertical carry belt loop design

When I make this again, I'll likely not include the elastic webbing, it makes it a little too tight and use my boxed out design for the main pouch.

I still don't know yet. They are a ton of work but I these are prototypes and I imagine when I get the pattern down, they won't be so laborious.

I'll figure it out and make a sales post :)

The SkinthXL MKII!
Reply #7 on: January 05, 2012, 06:49:00 AM
Did another prototype of the SkinthXL. A wider main pocket and larger side pockets and the removal of the elastic webbing made for a much easier tool entry and removal. I also borrowed a simliar belt loop design from molle pouches, only scaled down so there is much less play on a 2" belt.

Anyways, no reason to talk about it more....

Inside is a MUT, bit kit. In the side pocket, a mini Sharpie and a black Bullet pen.

A ST300 also at home here, and a Surge fits fine as well.

The wider pockets allow for a AA flashlight, here an Ultrafire C3. The flaps allow for a secure horizontal carry. It also keeps the rain out...somewhat.

The wider pockets also allow for a small folder to be carried to save the blade on the MT. A pry bar can also be carried here.

The back is a myriad of webbing but the important thing to note is that MKII has velcro belt loops, so it's easy on and off, and tension is adjustable on the belt. I think MKIII if someone orders on, I'll extend the vertical loops to go under the horizontal flaps so secure them (like molle, but shorter)

And finally, the whole Skinth Series, the Skinth, the Skinth+ and the SkinthXL

One more for fun, a P3MT hangs out with the Skinth family.

That may be true, but just like a lightsaber, it'd be so much fun to own. o.o;

Yep I agree, very nice work!  You must need some sort of industrial machine to sew though that heavy duty stuff?  I think my wife would kill me if I tried her machine to make one... lol.

Ideally, yes, but I have a middle/higher grade table top Kenmore machine and I do fine. The key is to use the right needle. A thick 18 size, denim needed (pointier tip) and planning out your stitches (as in where to double over material or not) is essential.

The OD green is a 600D nylon, so I can go through 6-7 layers easy. The 1000D stuff I have trouble getting through 6 but once it gets going, it goes!
