Wenger SI from 1989
on: January 05, 2012, 12:06:44 AM
I found some photos of a Wenger Swiss Army 70 is a Spanich language knife forum:

There is a photo of the cap lifter with this description:

http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k554/snagustin/P1080813.jpg

ES: Destapador con Destornillador filo como para pelar cables
EN: Opener with screwdriver blade to peel wires

Is this just the shadow on the underside of the cap lifter or was there ever a sharpened profile for stripping cables like the Alox Electrician?

SIs and Soldiers from this period do have a sharpened edge on the bottom of the large screwdriver, and it's much more useful forstripping wires than the 'notch' on the later revisions. My 91 Soldier still has this, I think it changed round 1992 or 1993.

Thanks for the clarification.

What's confusing me is that the photos of the Wenger SI (16520) at various vendors gives the impression that this stripper is still there. For example:

Is what I'm seeing a dated photo that doesn't match what is currently for sale or is this just the profile of the cap lifter blade that is confusing me?

I found a good photo in another posting showing the changes in the cap lifter (specifically the wire stripper function) on the Victorinox Soldier:

From R->L: 1970, 1977, 1986, 1992, 2008
