Are they burn marks on the plier head mate???

(they're friction burns from flicking it open and closed so much!)  :D

I am guilty of that as well. :D

Can't talk about addictive Gerbers without mentioning the 500 Recoil. Give a person one of those things and he'll be occupied for hours!

Does it launch with enough power to do the ol' window escapey?

I'm guessing not. :(  It does have a mighty stout spring in the launcher though. A definite maybe. (I ain't wanting to test it, sorry)

Take note of the two different blade sets that 600's are equipped with. I prefer the "Pro Scout" version, which has the scissors and the saw coupler (for jig saw blades)

I really need to get a pro scout version, one with the carbide cutters would be good!

Roadie, You can't get the Pro-Scout with Carbide Cutters unfortunately. So you'd have to decide if you want the Saw Couple with Remgrit or the Carbide's, ya can't have both (unless you buy both and switch the plier heads.... Hmmm an idea. How easy are the Plier Heads to change on those Gerbers, never had a go myself.

Damn your right....its not particularly difficult to take the heads off (see pic). Could be a plan for the future, just need to find two cheap tools to do it to!

Nope, and i've never felt like i was going to either. But then again i don't think i've been in a situation where i was likely to break one, or if i have then i've had the proper tools to do the job anyway.

Oh, do you find the Gerber tools work well for you? I am only fond of the 800 Legend because its so comfortable and the replacable tungsten carbide cutters are genius!

Thanks for the pic Roadie. I'm the same, I've actually been really impressed with the quality of the USA made gerbers, they really aren't as bad as some make out. Back to the plier heads, I have not long received a Pro Scout Needlenose with the Remgrit saw so I could pop that onto my other Gerber then couldnt I. I'll have to have a go at some time :)

I think the main reason i like my Gerbers is that i use the pliers more often than other tools and they are so easy to get at and use. If i used the other tools more then i maybe wouldn't like Gerbers so much. The MP400 and 600 are easily as comfortable as most other tools on the market, and just as useful, especially if you have the bit adaptor for it (which i don't but have heard good things about it) as it extends the reach of the admittedly stubby drivers.

I believe so, you just need to pull the retaining clip out of one side at the end nearest the plier head and the rest should follow fairly easily.

Cool stuff, I'll give it a go some time and I'll let you know how I got on. I am very pleased with the Pro Scout, just haven't tried the Remgrit yet. Haven't got a clue where the replacements can be bought from. Doubt the local B&Q will have them :(

Hopefully! Knowing my DIY skills though, I doubt it :D

Just out of interest, do you know if the tools can be removed easily, as they dont have a standard torx etc. Dont know what they are actually, but they look like they could be unscrewed? Perhaps a vice and another multi will get it open if need be.

You just have to turn the right one, the one that sits prouder of the surface (see pic) than the other is the one you turn and keep the other one stationary. Use a pair of pliers on it. Thats what it tells me to do in the instructions for my MP400 but it should work the same for the 600. i've done it no my 400 just to see what was inside and it worked well, just a bit fiddly putting the tools back in.

Appreciate the help Roadie :), thats great stuff. Think I'll start off with the plier head swap first and see how I get on :)  Nice to know they can be quite easily opened and cleaned etc.

As you say the one to turn is the one that apears to stand proud, the other is in a hole that has protrusions that fit in the groove at the side of the screws to hold it tight so you do not have to hold it tight, just a finger resting on it to stop it falling out when you remove the screw from the other side. Truthfully I had to tap the ones out when I have removed any! To remove the heads off a Gerber you do have to remove both clips. Use pliers and gently squeese the open prongs of the circlip and the protrusion at that end. Then move the circlip to remove it. The newer models are screwed on with torx screws so are even easier.

Do the hokey little screwdrivers on Gerber tools actually work (Played with a Freehand the other day, and, other than feeling smug because I knew that pulling down the lock release would raise the tools, was wholly uninspired.
