Just a question, will you be able to make CT-bit-holder (the plastic part) with this wondrous machine?
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Oh its on the list for sure.

Im cutting more parts right now, then I will code the round over operation, then I can put some together.  The scales Ive shown so far just have the texture cut and that's it.

If I filled all the SAK orders I have and have time Id for sure work on new projects.  I am designing my own pocket multitool as well.  I just have to make blades and then Ive made all the parts necessary to do my own.  :D

Is it possible to convert the original alox scales of the Pioneer to carry tweezers?
Could you make springs with an integrated glass breaker?
Any ideas on incorporating a pen and the eye glass screwdriver on alox and Ti scales?
Are Ti scales with a "silver" cross possible?
Am I asking too many questions? 😁

Ive got some textured sets of scales done now, but they needed internal pocketing for weight reduction still, so I'm working on that next.

Today has been my best day ever with the CNC mill.  No more leaks, and Ive finally mastered 2D patterning and actually getting what I am trying to!

The first one I did was a interference pattern type.  I made some concentric circles overlap and hit it with a ball mill.  I was super conservative and it took 10 minutes to cut and Im fine with that.  :D

I am working on more patterns now and of course the traditional crosshatch.

Now that I can cut wherever I make in CAD its like the sky is the limit now.  Last night I was cutting tweezers slots on the back scale no problems.  Then I was thinking maybe there is a better way to store them.. what about just a sliding drawer pocket in the Ti scale that you could stash whatever you want.  Make it rotate out from inside the handle with a little latch.

I have to tweak the layout of the pockets a bit still to as I need to leave room to add the build number and date.  I want to number all the Ti builds now.   My Tormach diamond drag engraver arrived too so Im going to test that out.

What about something simple? Going alox was one great choice in my life but you lose out on not only the tweezers, but the toothpick and now a days the pen? Or in some cases the pin, imagine a vic compact, swapping out the corkscrew for a Philips, and also the scales, but now keeping all the little extras! Idk about the pin cause that might be a little too small,, but along with everything else? That would be one heck of a knife!

Now that I think of it the pen might be a little tricky, but with a little work I think it can be doable, just rather then cutting a flat cut make a little bump for restriction, same for the toothpick?

Heres a thought. What about a set of 91mm scales with 2.5mm holes, specifically for using stock parts, and exposed rivets? Bonus points for optional pocket clip and scale tools :tu:

Sometimes it's embarrassing not to master enough English to fully understand.

You mean receiving scales, pivots and screws fitting for 91mm to self assemble the knife? I buy that today! I would mostly like to try various layouts with the tools I know I want. And learn more about the machinery inside :-)

I was wondering what about modding the tools for example put an awl into 84mm frame. Can you use the machine to cut out into the size or it needs to be done by hand?

I can cut hardened steels but it would really wear out the bits fast.  I saw one maker who tried heat treating the knife blanks first then machining them to finish them up and while it worked I think it was not good in the long run.  It is something I will try though. The first blades I make will be from the piece of damasteel I bought ages ago.  Im going to make a fixture to hold the blanks at the proper angle then machine off a plane on each side to form the blade.  Basically a full flat grind but machined off.

It would only work for the guys that want to rivet as all the internals need to be modified and pivots created of exact length.  But I could sell a set of Ti scales and pin stock with it long enough to assemble up to a swiss champ size.

Im working today on getting the edge round over perfect.  Ive milled the front and back faces no problem and the edges all the way around so the last part is the round over.  Seemed simple to program but Im using a ball mill with 0.002 paths and somehow I keep getting a concave instead of convex, so Im doing somethign wrong.  Thats the last operation I need to learn though before I can build pallets and run these in batches.  Having it hands off means I can have the machine producing these while I go so other work.

I've seen most blade makers grind the profiles and bevels first. Then after heat treat they finish it up. I think this is the best method by far.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Grinding doesnt make a huge difference, you can grind hardened steel just fine expecially with modern ceramic belts.  Some people have steel rectangles heat treated then grind them into blades.  Its nice and simple that way as you dont have to grind them twice and you never get warps.

Im talking about producing a blade without using a grinder at all though.  All machined.  A grinder would only be needed to put an edge on at the very end.  Machining hardened steels is much harder than grinding so I think Id have to do it in 2 stages.  Or one stage and finished on a grinder.   I found a canadian source for KMG grinders now so that is on my list.
