Stupid things you did as a kid...

My friend and I swiped an airport light cover off a runway. We were on a scout campout and always took "war trophies" to decorate jr staff area. As soon as we lifted the blue glass covering the blazing white sun like light underneath gave us away as it was about 1 am. We hauled ass back to the woods..waited a couple of hours then headed back to camp.

Sure enough airport police were waiting on us. This was back in the late 80's. Just imagine what Homeland Security would do to us these days.

the punishment - picking up trash and mowing 7 acres of grass at the port with a push mower for 2 months.

Sorry but I will not divulge my stupidest things I did when I was young. No way, ever! All I can say is

I MIGHT tell some of the not so stupid things I did, but I have to think about it.

The neighbor kids and my brother and I were at war for a time.

Their dad had built them a grapefruit cannon, and they would occasionally pepper our yard with rotten fruit.

We got our revenge by stripping our birds eye chilli bush, crushing the chillies and soaking them in water.

After a day, the water was loaded into a super soaker (pressurised water gun) and shenanigans were had.

These days we'd probably be done for assault!

At about the age of 10, I "borrowed" my friends older brothers BB gun. Went home, stuck a .22 round n the end of a piece of wood. Stood back about, I don't know, maybe 15 feet away and starting shooting at the .22 round. I hit the .22, since there was no place for the slug to go, the case went backwards and .......... wait for it ........... wait for it ......... hit me square in the stomach.

In an overly dramatic manner, I dropped to my knees clutching my stomach, and yelling "I've shot myself, I've shot myself!!!" Sure I was going to die of a self inflicted gunshot wound to the stomach, I was reluctant to look under my shirt. Slowly, I lifted my shirt fully expecting a bullet wound, sure that if it didn't kill me my parents were certainly going to. What I saw was a perfectly round "strawberry" (skinned knee) type of wound perfectly matching the back part of the .22 shell.

After figuring out that it hadn't actually done any real damage, I took the BB gun back.

I was scared to death to show my stomach. I knew, I just knew that if my mom or dad saw it they would KNOW I shot myself. Well, they never saw it, and never found out.

Why did I do this? Stupidity mostly, and heck, I was the only one home so why not? So, I didn't actually "dodge a bullet" that day but learned an important lesson in firearm safety and physics without any real damage to myself and more importantly to anyone else.

I also did a lot of stupid things as a kid. A lot of the stupid things we did involved fire, when we were kids nearly everything and everyone around was set on fire at some point. And I really do mean everything and everyone.

There was also a fair amount of petty theft, mostly because we didn't know any better. We were really stupid as kids.

I lived next to a fairly busy country road sooooooo

we would tie fishing line to a stuffed animal (my sisters

) and when ever a car would come along we would pull on the line making it appear an animal was darting out in front of them from across the way.

we would fill a small cardboard box with empty glass bottles found on the side of the road and place the box square in the middle of the road..

we also did this a couple of times...
