I'm taking the Skeletool through its paces & making notes for a review.  It's amazing how a decent blade on a less-bulky multitool makes a big difference in the usefulness of the blade.  I ran a test a while back where I concluded that knives are more useful when there isn't a lot of bulk in the hand, & that is really the case with the Skeletool.  I can maneuver the blade very easily while doing simple chores.

The pliers are also comfortable enough & have enough leverage to be more useful than the Juice pliers so far.

Leatherman did a good job so far.

I'm also finding that the Skeletool is very modular.  You could take it apart & have the pliers as a standalone module (with the bits at one end & the carabiner at the other), but then the knife is its own module, & the bit holder is also an add-on "module".

See how the layers are similar to a SAK.  They just added another layer to accommodate another function.

I still don't want one.

Ah Tom, it seems with great power comes great responsibility, won't these sods let you rest without barraging you with questions and enquiries?

This Modular thing however is interesting to me, I've long admired SOG for the interchangable blades. Much kudos for the multi company (after Vic) who comes up with a few "Chassis" models into which they can build many variations without huge set up and manufacturing costs.

I don't mind.  Getting the honor of receiving the first one obliges you to answer questions & write a review.  Besides it's fun if I have the time!

I don't think you can remove the clip.  It is attached at the pivot & also appears to be riveted.

it just looks like a spacer not a rivet, maybe so it does'nt pinch/grab the fabric at the top of the clip?

When I flex the clip it doesn't move at all where the rivet/spacer is located, so I'm thinking it's attached.

it seems strange to put a rivet, you can't take apart, next to a screw together pivot? :ahhh
Now I'm going to have to buy one just to take it apart >:D

I agree.  It looks more like a locator to keep the clip from rotating.  I'm not ready to take mine apart yet though.  The clip is so small that you hardly notice it in use, & you'd have to add a washer to take up the space of the clip in the pivot, & then you'd still have the rivet/spacer sticking out since it's riveted on the other end.

Congrats Tom. At long last, the much awaited MT is already out. Your so lucky to be the first member of our forum to possess the Skeletool.

One of the photos on the Leatherman site shows the Freestyle without a clip:

If this is same as skeletool, you should be able to just remove the nut then, the bottom nut is actually holding the tool together, the top one hold the clip.

A fine write-up Tom! I like the way you wove together all the pictures and topics that were discussed plus several more. Can't wait to get my own Skeletool to see if I agree with you!  :)

Alright a stupid question, the whole thing is stainless right? I remember reading an early report saying the handle is aluminum.

Oh I love the little bottle opener icon.  :D :drink:

It's all steel.  I think the Freestyle will have aluminum on it.
