What should I go for next???
on: February 16, 2012, 03:46:35 AM
Well, I have hit a stump.

I just completed the Grand Prix variation...and now, I don't know what to do next.

I feel like I have most of the "main" variations.   Except for the X-line of Swiss Champs.  I just can't bring myself to buy one of those...they are beaucoup $$$$.

Nice collection you have there. You might consider the Automobile, some of which also have the old car on them. Others have St. Christopher, and some have bails.

The only problem with St Christopher's is that they seem to go for $100 each these days. If you like the process of finding pieces of a puzzle, the SwissChamp "X" series isn't that exciting. XAVT and XLTs you can buy new, XXLTs are pretty available, and XLs are almost impossible to find.

Craftsman, Master Craftsman, Champion and SwissChamp variations are nice, lots of tool changes so tons of different ones to actually get and relatively cheap. One of every 91mm is tough since there are so many variations. One of every 84mm is easier since there are less tool, but so many tools were discontinued decades ago that it can be tough as well. Maybe one of every 58mm?

I REALLY like Master Craftsman.  I have 2 from the 1960's (both have bail), a 1970's era one, and a 1980's Space Shuttle.

I am NOT going to pay $300 or so for a NIB Space SHuttle from Japan that keeps popping up on E-bay.

I have a Franken Master Craftsman....thinking about getting rid of it.   Mix-master of tools and blades that spans 1970's to present.

Craftsman could be next.  I have all the ones up to 1986, pre pliers.  I have none with pliers.

58mm's?  Ah, nope.  I am not a fan of the "key chain" knives.   I am, however, looking for an Auburn University Classic.  Unsuccessful so far.   I have seen those for U. of Tennessee, FSU, and a few other schools, however.

Victorinox did a series of Classics for universities back in the 90's. The original set was 35 schools, though others may have been added later. Auburn was one of them (#73009).

Good hunting.

Once in a while you can find them; I know of... two? different antique stores that, between them, have four or five of those Classics.  They're pricey, though. :(  Missed out on a Duke one at one point; should've gotten it for Dirty Santa one year.  >:D

APB for an Auburn U. one.  Auburn is my Alama Mater...class of 1994.  Hence, why I REALLY want one, prefer NIB.
