Swisstool spirit with ratchet
on: November 04, 2011, 05:36:50 PM
I decided I wanted to snag the swiss ratchet and the extras with the bigger case to compliment my spirit.  Just arrived right now in the mail.  Very nice rachet indeed.  I love how it all fits in the case, and it all feels top quality.   I thought I'd still keep my leathermans in the EDC rotation, but honestly this covers everything Id need now in one nice swiss engineered package!!!

I honestly think everyone should try a Spirit and see how they like it.  :tu:

I only used leathermans for maybe the last 5 years or so. I saw the swisstools but they looked odd to me, I did not realize at the time they are heavy duty quality tools.  I started looking at other MT's, and I picked up a SOG MT, then I thought I might as well try a swiss tool.  Bought the swisstool RS and LOVED it.  I was blown away with the quality and fit and finish.

Recently I saw there was a smaller package swisstool (Spirit X) and that looked small enough to EDC while losing really no functionality.  I now own 2 of those :D.  If victorinox made more MT's id buy them all, but only 2 models (with some slight loadout changes).  I still like my leathermans, but they are no where near the fit and finish of the swiss.

If I could only have ONE MT, i would have to pick the swisstool RS, but the problem with that is its too heavy to pocket carry for me, even hung on lanyard.  But the spirit is lighter and just right.  So I carry the full size swisstool in my EDC bag, and the spirit in my pocket.

If you get the Wrench you can snugg fit all in that pouch (I did)...

Put the wrench on bit holder (instead of ratchet), and then put the ratchet with ratchet extension... (there is a small pocket on same side)... Then you are ready for TEOTWAWKI!!!  :D :D :pok: :pok: :pok:

There is something immensely efficient about having pretty much all tools open from the
outside without having to fiddle and crack open handles!  I agree that the SwissTool is a
wee bit heavy but always did enjoy carrying the Spirit.

The absolute most versitile, compact MT in the world today.
Heres mine.  SwissTool Spirit Plus with ratchet.  Mods:  1/4" & 5/16th nut drivers, a 1/4" drive for sockets, a 3" widgey bar, U.S. Govt. tweezers, and a rake and wrench for lock picking.

Pics to follow.

Well I've updated mine.  I got a SkinthXL from Metropolicity and found I have more room:)

Here is a new thread I started today to show pics of the SkinthXL in use...

I've moved my pick set & tweezers to another location as they are not often used.
