Game of Thrones TV show - as good as the books?

I've started reading Game of Thrones and am enjoying it very much. Has anybody read them too and seen the show?

How do they compare? I like the look of it, but book adaptations can be iffy.

I look forward to hearing some points of view.

I never read the books so can't offer a proper comparison, however, the show is really good :)

I have read about half of the 1st book, and from what I can tell they did a good job.

I think most people agree that the show is very good, but books are always better. That's just the way it is.

I found its changed a bit from the book, but that's necessary to dramatise something as you can't easily get across people's thoughts. Apart from that it's one of my favourite series.

A few friends are extras in the series, (its filmed here in N.Ireland) so I'm hoping to blag a tour round the sets  :)
