I have been on about getting a black gerber for a while now and I managed to pick up a second hand one :D  OK its not in fab condition but it will do me nicely :)   I had received a standard Gerber MP600 with Carbide Cutters a while back from this forum and decided to change the plier head to see what it would look like.

ps. Sorry about the watermark in the pics but I have had someone use a couple of my pics in the past and claim they were his. I don't mind people using my pics, I'm not here to make anything from them, but when they claim its their own and take credit for it, it gets a tad annoying.

Anyway here's the pics :)

My Black Gerber...

Clipped the plier heads off both of the tools...

Put the black plier head on the silver...

Another view...

Black gerber looking a bit different...

Both tools together...

I don't think I will keep them as they are but is was a little bit of fun to be had. Both plier heads work smoothly on the tools and it was very easy to do.

I think the black head looks good on the silver. Matches the locks.

Thats the one I liked the most as well. I might keep it on there for a little bit and see how I get one with it :)

Cheers Mike. Its a shame Gerber dont actually sell the plier heads separately, I'm sure a few people would like to have spares or blunt/needlenose to just snap on.

And as unuseable as that black plier head is for EDC use, it still looks cool!

Yeah I haven't put them under too much seriously hard use but what they have been needed for they have done the job fine. If I remember right that straight blade was extrememly sharp when I got, me thinks you had either not used it much or you have very good sharpening skills sir  ;) :D

Funny.

People seem to say for the Vic Swisstool "It'll never let me down, ever!"
but for any Gerber Multi, it's a "Oh, so far so good... :-\ "

It seems doubt of quality is ingrained into even EDCers of the Gerber range - even if they have yet to experience a fault themselves.

Do you have much use for the Military model, (crimpers and spike), or does it just make a good talking point.

I would have complete confidence in my Gerber. :)  They are solid (even if they are little rattly).

Hmmm, I didn't really mean it like that   I've never had a single problem with these types of Gerbers (MP400/600) and I do actually have a lot of faith in them, OK not as much as Victorinox, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them for a tough job. I've mentioned a few times how Gerbers are underrated. I think a few people have come to dislike them a bit more nowadays as the new range is all being made abroad and it isn't the same quality as these tools. Whats your opinion of them Nomad?

I think that with tools like the Diesel, people's entrenched opinions of gerber's are starting to change :)

I do prefer the Supertool and the Supertool is of better quality, but I would still not worry about the reliability of a Gerber.

I think people judge Gerber before trying them which is a real shame. :(

Don't Have. Can't Afford  :)

a MP 400 or Diesel would be the go, but I want an MPT, Supertool, new SAK, and some other things more.
If I come across one at the right price, I'll get it, but until then I'll hang out here, look at pictures, and ask questions.

Yeah i did finally get round to it :D. I haven't taken any of the tools out and put them in other Gerbers yet, might be worth trying to see what it looks like with the silver Gerber with the black plier head and black tools.
