Magnifying glass

What is the mag glass made of plastic or glass? Also can it be removed from the gray plastic? Wanting to do a small mod and just wondering. Thanks and no I'm not back modding.....yet

The one with the gray frame is glass
The one with the (see through?) frame is plastic

Ive got 6 of the old ones here and they are all plastic lenses in grey plastic. I dont think they were ever glass, but I could be wrong.

They differ by diameters, but by magnification a little as well

That was the common thinking, but now I think I have to test it for myself, it could be even in the old holder they transitioned to plastic and no one noticed, or they never were glass. Often when I've checked 'common' SAK knowledge it turns out to be incorrect. I'm not saying it is in this case, but it certainly seems to be worth checking now based on Syph007's report.

Ah I did go back and check closer with and they are glass for sure. They 'felt' like plastic to me, but when you tap it against metal it makes a distinctive sound that plastic would not make, so I was wrong!

I did read conflicting reports on different sites though, but it seem sak wiki is correct.

I did check mine before I posted the link to see if it was glass or not, but didn't do a whole write up as it was all written in the article. And I thought, "if it's wrong, I can always blame it on the author of the article."

This may sound stupid but with either style which way is the magnifying/reducing side mine looks rounded outwards on both sides... is this correct?

Funny thing about the magnifying glass is i thought i would never use it but i use it all the time, mainly looking for splinters or trying to make out old tang stamps

Just checked my old beater SwissChamp, it's glass.
Feels a bit cooler to the touch than the surrounding gray plastic.
