Are the tools in the SOG S45 Pocket Power Pliers compatible with the Paladin PT-510 handles?

I have an old, tired S45 in which the individual blades/tools are OK, but the springs in the handles are "tired."  The tired springs permit the PPP's individual tools to fold up too easily.

I was thinking of buying a PT-510 and replacing its specialized telecom tools with the tools from my old S45 in it.  I like the gear covers and pliers on the PT-510.

Thanks.

I think they are identical, with similar tools anyway apart from the wire stripping tool, or is it some other model I am thinking off....
even in the worst case being SOG most tools should fit in no problem.

I believe they do fit and are compatible, the only difference between the two tools is the components and those excellent gear covers. At worst you might need some spacers, go for it :tu:

Thanks for the comments.   I will post the results if I obtain a Paladin PT-510 and try transferring the tools from my old SOG S45 PPP.

I began this thread last year and can now tell you more about PT-510/S45 compatibility.

I was able to purchase a new Paladin PowerPlay PT-510 at an exceptional price this week and configured it with some blades from my old SOG S45 Deluxe Pocket Power Pliers.

The blades are an exact fit in the PT-510 handles. There didn't appear to be any thread locking compound used in the PT-510 because the Allen screws were easy to turn when I received it.

There are a few differences between the PT-510 and S45 besides the gear covers, blade selection, and fasteners:
  • The S45 has a lanyard attachment eyelet which the PT-510 lacks.
  • The leather cases for both tools are the same size, but the PT-510 will fit in the cases only one way due to the protruding gear covers.   The S-45 fits in the cases either with pliers at the top or bottom.
  • The "spring" leaves in the PT-510 handles are shorter on one side, though I'm not sure I can discern whether that affects blade clumping or force required to close the blades.
  • The wire cutter in the PT-510 is longer than in the S45 and has a hard wire cutter notch. However, the PT-510's longer wire cutter steals space from the grippy portion of the plier jaws typically used to grab a nut or shaft.

Overall, the project was a success.  The chief improvements of the new PT-510/S45 hybrid tool over my old SOG S45 are gear covers and better wire cutters.

sounds cool any pics  :pok:   :tu:  ive got a PPP and use it daily for work, i have to say the gears dont bother me too much but can be a pain , the wirecutter impress me everytime i use them but i do have a little nick to the cutter edge but only very small and doesnt effect the wirecutters performance, ive had this happen to most LM,s ive owned, too me the ppp is a very handy sized MT plus very solid,i do see a mod like this in my future as like the idea of the gear covers,im getting a powerlock next with covers and that will take over my ppp's daily work tasks so the ppp will be my daily out of work user, thanks for sharing your thoughts and tips  :tu:

I forgot to mention that my PT-510 and S45 came with leather belt cases.  The PT-510 case is black and the S45 case is brown.

Here are a few scans of the Paladin PowerPlay PT-510 and my old SOG S45 Deluxe Pocket Power Pliers.

The pliers on my old SOG look different than the pliers shown in Youtube.com videos of newer S45s.  The new version pliers appear more pointed and have a longer wire cutters.  They resemble the PT-510 pliers, but I don't know if the pliers on the newer S45s contain a hard wire cutter as the PT-510 does.
