Leatherman PST Sheath
on: June 28, 2012, 01:23:01 AM
I purchased a few of these LM PST sheaths from eBay and am wondering if they are genuine Leatherman.  All of my other LM sheaths have leatherman stamped in the brass button, whereas these do not.  Are these fake?

Is there felt cloth covering the rivets inside the sheath? Im curious now because I bought 1 from that same hand in the picture.

No the inside looks like the original, however the texture of the inside leather is a bit more rough than the original sheaths I have.  It looks real, but I am not sure.

I have 2 radically different sheaths That I got with a couple of
PSTs I have purchased from 2 different Pawn shops.

The first Looks standard, but the second had these huge heavy duty rivets, that actually scuffed up the handles on the PST, But the handles were the most used part, the tools were immaculate.

both are definitely vintage, and used, both seem a little too dried out, but I don't want to put anything on them to prevent damage to them. I also have a sheath I got with a Pulse that seems to have Leather conditioner embedded causing it to stretch out.

I didn't notice the Ebay link had a second Pic, but it looks like the same Sheath I got with the heavy rivets, instead of the Splayed out ones.

I purchased one from this seller to replace the worn out one from my original pst (late 80's model) and its exactly the same as the original one I had (without the leatherman name stamped into the brass button)and the large rivets

Just yesterday I got a new clam packed Flair off ebay and the sheath that came with that one matched the other style of sheath you mention, leatherman stamped onto the button and the splayed rivets

Same here :tu: I have quite a few and there seem to be as many variations in them (although some variations are small) as there are variations on the PST itself :o :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :D

Has anyone compared this to the current PST sheaths leatherman sells?
http://www.leatherman.com/accessories/product/Standard_Leather_Sheath_IV

I'm in Canada, so either way i'll be paying more than the actual cost of the item, in shipping fees. I like the style of the new sheath better, but i get the feeling that the ones made back when production was done in america(were the sheaths made in America too?) would be significantly better quality.

I am fairly sure that one is a artificial leather & the old school ones are heaps nicer, in my opinion, I think over time Leatherman has used different sheath suppliers & there are some differances between them  . The ones for sale in the first link certainly look original.
