The tool you'd miss the least...
on: February 20, 2008, 10:11:07 PM
...if they took it off a multitool ???

This was a tough one for me, and I really can't think of a tool I'd willingly loose :-\

I guess thats why I love Swisstool's as they pack the most amount of features in to there tools :)

Ok so I guess I failed my own question, so can you guys do any better ???

No question for me, the saw.  I have never used one on a Multi and I doubt I ever will.  It's just not a tool I never feel I require.

I can live without a bottle or can opener on a multi. If I feel the need for either, the ones onboard a SAk do the job very well.

I was going to go with the cap lifter, until I remembered all the other tool's that are usually grafted onto it ::)

I wouldn't be without a bottle opener on anything.  Use them all frequently.

I could loose one of the 37 flathead screwdrivers that seem to be on all the tools now.

Well than I would not loose anythign. I use the awls, I use the bottleopeners and the can openers. If I had to i guess it would be the Straite edge blade. I allways have another sharp on me anyway, and I only carry the SE and leave the serr. in my tool.

Hmm sacrifice a blade , even though I would need it, I'm still not sure I could loose any blade in preference to almost any other tool ???

But you have the other blade in the tool. Most my tools have the serr. So I could dump the strait edge.

V-Cutter and 1/4 inch drive on SOG.
Bit Drivers on Leatherman.
I don't have a use for any of these and if they went away forever I wouldn't miss them.

I agree with you there, my charge has got two of the buggers ::), I'd happily loose one for something a bit more useful, like an awl :)

On my Spirit I could give the small flat screwdriver. I just don't use it very much. Maybe the file. On my Farmer, touch it and I'll whack you with my cane.

I agree that bit drivers aren't a big priority for me personally, but I could definitely lose the bottle cap lifter. I DO like the can openers, though. The saw is so important to me that I ordered and put one on each of my Bear jaws not so equipped.

The serrated blade.

It does the same function as the main blade but usually takes up room that could be better used by an implement serving a different function like a saw/file.

I could lose the chisels found on the SwissTools! I have never used that part of the implement once! But, I must add that I have used every single function on my SURGE! I find that it works best when you tie some paracord on the lanyard ring and throw it over a branch!!!

I must admit to never having used a multitool corkscrew in my entire life, at least not for pulling a cork. There are auxiliary uses for a corkscrew - picking at knots, or holding the little Vic eyeglass screwdrivers - but none of those uses justifies the big bulging size of a corkscrew on a SAK or multitool IMO.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools
