Orange Fuse!
on: July 25, 2012, 02:49:27 AM

Been excited about this since I first saw it(Here on this forum, or even on Leatherman's own site as a series of pictures with no info), couldn't get any info out of Leatherman's customer service email, but now my weekly google searches have paid off - Knifecenter.com put it up on their site this weekend! A little pricey, since it's paired up with a LED Lenser headlamp - $60 for the package. Being here in Portland I'm going to have to stop by the factory store and see if they are going to have it on it's own, or if the combo is the only way to get it.

We had a sign up list for a group buy in the charter forum but i think Travis has been to busy with all the giveaways lately to go after them. Maybe he'll have a better price soon. Send him a PM if he doesn't come by soon.

Ahhh good, I was beginning to wonder if the one we saw at Shot was a one-off teaser. :)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

No sign of an orange Fuse at the store, and I don't think the store employees knew much about it. But while I was there I picked up a Rebar and Charge TTi, and got my old-style Wave replaced with a new one(wire cutter damage... But I think I'm going to miss the old style scissors).

They include the standard nylon sheath with this Fuse. It appears to be a bit large for this tool, and it flops around a lot unless you really pull down on the flap when closing it - and even then, you can easily pull the tool out the side. Not terribly impressed with that. I stole the leather sheath from my Rebar, that works much better - now I just need to find something to carry the Rebar in. I think I may buy another LM leather sheath for it. I've been looking closely at Skinth products, but I would probably end up carrying my TTi in that. For now I have a Maxpedition dual mag pouch coming in that I'm going to try to use to hold both a tool and a flashlight, and see how that goes.

The tool itself is quite nice. Pivots seem a bit tight, going to oil it up and see if I can work it out a bit - but if that fails, I may have to re-tension it. If there is one thing I hate, it's having to use a tool to pry out a tool - and all the companies seem to prefer to make them a bit tight(but by far the worst I've ever seen is my dad's Victorinox, I don't know how he uses that thing). Or maybe I just have weak fingernails, I dunno.
The color is pretty bright, I didn't realize how much so until I put it next to my other orange items - but that may also be partly because the rest of them are filthy and worn out. I couldn't find my newer Spyderco Ladybug in orange, but I found a couple of old ones - orange Rescue models of the Remote Release and Snap-It, as well as my orange(ish) Magpul iPhone cover, and my new TTi for effect: (yeah, I've got a thing for orange  )

The LED Lenser H5 is a pretty nice headlamp. I wasn't expecting to really care, or maybe even resell it - but it's a keeper. Battery compartment is a little on the large side for only holding 3 AAA batteries, but otherwise it's good. Tis a shame there doesn't seem to be a way to get the orange Fuse without getting the package deal, and I haven't seen it show up anywhere else besides Knifecenter yet.

I'd find it a lot more appealing if it didn't also come with the crappy light.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.
