Rebar build quality

Are tehre any known issues with the quality control of the rebar?

I have a ss and bo one now (thanks travis!), and both of them are quite loose one one side at the plier pivot, theres a good 2 or 3 mm play in them when closed, altho it is less noticeable when they are open.

Any comments?

Is the play at the joint where the pliers meets the handles or where the two plier halves meet each other?

If the play is at the plier/handle joint, you might try tightening the weird bolts which fasten the pliers to the handles.

From my experience, quality is still up there for the flagship models like the charge, but the newer tools are poorer.  Yes they have a warranty but your chance of getting a sub par one is higher now and you have to go through the return/warranty process to be happy.  I dont like that much, but I guess its a sign of the times to skimp here and there to save money.

My stainless is good. The BO handles have some movement that is noticeable when closed.. It seems the holes to fasten to the plier head might have been drilled out a little to much.    :think:     Just a guess as to why.    :)

 :think: I haven't had a problem at all with mine  :tu: It seems as good of quality as any LM I own but I haven't really ever had that many problems with them :cheers: I say that but I do have a bit of play in the plier head of my Blast but I think that is my fault in the way I was using it :whistle: :D Hope you can get your problem sorted out if it is beyond your liking :tu:

My came with near perfect quality.  The tools and blades are great, and aren't stiff.  I couldn't be happier.

Strange, they are intended for shelf queenage but its a little dissapointing they arent as tight as all the other ones, probably wont try and tighten them up in case of scratches!

Also, when squeezing the pliers together they seem to flex a fair bit?

I guess they arent supposed to be as strong as a supertool though

This is my Rebar after playing with it for about 2 days (playing = opening tools, taking pics ... never really used it).





Went back to the store and got a new one, which wasn't great either, for the whole story, click here.

So I believe Syph007 's statement is dead-on, comparing about 7 Rebars in the store showed a lot of them were not 100 %, while I found no flaw what so ever on the 5 Waves I checked at the store.  Maybe Leatherman will solve this, but until then I'm going to stay away from the "cheaper" ones ...

Cheaper being very relative around here ... (86 Euro for a Rebar  ::)).

One of two that I have is so tight that I can't open instruments without other pliers - or its a risk of breaking the nail. Sure it will become easier with some time and a little oil help, possibly, but just don't have time to work with it.

You could heat up and loosen the fasteners which hold the individual bits to the handles.   I've adjusted them on most of my Leatherman tools to suit my preferences.

This is my first post and I am very glad to be a part of this particular community.
 I bought a Rebar last week and the build quality was fine, nice and as tight as I would expect. The handles did feel a bit light, though that's probably the trade up for the curled edges on the handles; imagine trying to do that with original PST handle stock.
Truth be told, I only purchased it for the plier heads, however.  I installed them immediately on my ChargeTti  along with outboard Wingman scissors and a Blast phillips head driver. I'll post the results in the Modding Forum as soon as I figure out how to do photos.

how well did the Wingman scissors fit onto the Charge body?  I am thinking of doing the same to my ReCharge.  (although I started with a Charge XTi instead of a TTi.)
