PPP Tini rebuild.Help required
on: June 21, 2013, 05:07:46 PM
I'm wanting to build my ultimate PPP.

It's going to be built up on my Tini, but there's a few things I'd like to do...

First is the easy one, replace the nut pivots with eithe hex or torx key ones. I did have a hex key PPP but I kinda traded it before I'd decided to commit to the rebuild. Can anybody suggest where I can get suitable pivots, preferably in the UK?

The other thing I want to do is fit scissors.SOGs own ones are...functional.Has anybody fitted Vic scissors or anything similar, and if so,how did you do it?
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Can you measure teh Pivot length and diameter? I tore apart a Gerber  Evo and from the top of my head the pivot diameter should fit? That is, if you can live with Gerber parts on your SOG.

Length is 10mm,diameter is 4mm mate.

Zed: Thanks, I was wondering where they came from!
Taxi Dad, i am quite fond of teh Gerber/Fiskar Scissors in my MP 600 - what is not right with them in your opinion?
Kirk: I´ll have a look at teh Gerber pivots while looking for teh Gerber spacers.

I think 91mm scissors would be too big. 84mm would probably fit but who's gonna risk taking down one of those and enlarging the hole for the SOG pivot. :ahhh

What about the ones on your 400? I generally reckon the Fiskers MT scissors are some of the better ones around!

Wenger scissors on the other hand aren't that rare yet. But the spring being separate from the body could be a problem.

well obviously !!! the Surge scissors kick arse
Leatherman don't do bad with scissors IMO, wave/charge(etc) look small and silly but i've found them pretty good, and the 'squirt' S4 rocks but clearly they're not an option

not done much with the mp400, i'm still 'thinking' and planning a mod. the idea was pliers mainly to compliment my 'swiss champ'. the rest of the tools might go or be swapped out for something 'different'  :-\  keys, torch, jigsawblade-exchanger? (any ideas welcome  ;))

Just for you, dear fellows, i tested my Imperial socket set for the first time and tore my PPP apart to check the fitting of the Gerber EVO Pivots.

Kirky likey?
The Downside (quite literally and metaphorically)

I could not see if the Pivots are threaded all the way.
If you want to shorten them and find out, I´ll send them with the Spacers.

The tools fit perfectly with the Pivots. You need to decide vif you like the fancy heads.

Love the idea mate, and thank you for taking the time to check.

Problem is,I've no idea how to cut them down without buggering up the threads.

Dremeling and filing? I think we should ask Metro and Syph, they should have shortened quite some Pivots each...

Best scissors for a PPP beyond a doubt are the ones on a PST II. Added bonus is a diamond coated file  ;)

Found him at the Fridge, sipping my beer.

I have a belt sander. Maybe I´ll try if that leaves the threads intact on some expendable Pivot.

I would try turning my belt sander on its back (with a fine grit belt), drill a hole through a flat piece of wood so the pivot is a snug fit
Then place the wood on the sander and push the pivot through from the top, this should keep the end of the pivot square

I make this up as I go along so watch your fingers Mate  :D

I did buy a clamp with my Bosch sander, it usually lives on its back as i do more metal than woodwork with it.

And I´ll blame Kirk if i shorten a Finger or parts get Airborne...
