What did you use your Leatherman for today?
on: August 13, 2012, 01:20:54 AM
I used my newest to me TTI to saw a piece of cherry wood in half. I then shaved the outer layer off. I was at a flea market yesterday and bought a nice sized display case for the knife/gun shows I do and I needed pegs to hold the lid up so I made them. :D

For prolonged use or as a whittling tool DON'T use a tti. My thumb is quite sore from pushing the blade forward and running it across the other tools while doing so.

More like "two" days.  One took the microwave apart and today it went back together.  Micro is dead but at least the tool got some work.  Pleased to know the 2D phillips wasn't as bad as expected and in fact worked pretty good.  Still prefer standard phillips.

This is not from today... but stumbled into these pics so figured I would post.  Descriptions should be easy to match for pics...

Was replacing a turn sig switch and found the file to be VERY handy to chamfer the spacers as they would not fit otherwise.  Tight fit.

Scoring some plastic hooks to allow easy breaking for some project.

Scraping the paint/logo from some seat belt clips

Used the file to knock down the super sharp edge left after watch lens chipped.  Worked!

I went to a wedding on Sunday.  There I used the can opener to open a can of olives and the pliers to un-stick a stubborn camera monopod; I also loaned it out to cut open a tray of snacks when the woman fiddling with it volunteered that she hadn't brought her Leatherman.

So there I was.........

Seriously though, I was bored last night and decided that I would install a light set from the great store Ikea on our dressers in the closet. I bought these lights six years ago when we bought the house (just getting around to it). I'm not a very "handy" kind of man, so it was a bit of a challenge for me. I used the LM PST to do the measuring (with precision, I might add), my MUT to do some unscrewing/ screwing and a drill to do, of course, the drilling.   Here's a pic of the end result:

I used my new Surge to cut a large branch off of a big lilac bush in my yard.  I'm going to like having this tool in my pocket on the weekends.

Used my TTi to remove some rivets from some handbag handles so I could fit some new handles on my missus' favourite "new" (to her) handbag (always good to get brownie points with the missus as I'm usually a bit of a slacker).

Changed a stoplight lightbulb on my SUV and put on a license plate frame with the long philips bit on the MUT. Great job for this bit as the screws are recessed. I also changed wiper blades but no tool needed for that. :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

I used my Charge TTi twice today. This afternoon I used it to mount a headboard to a bed. Then, this evening, I used it to open a container of prunes.

I used my Charge TTi twice today.

This morning I used it to cut a page from a magazine.

Then, this evening, I used it to remove the back from my old watch, so I could replace its battery. This last task was notable in that the Batteries Plus guy that I took it to had given up on getting it off, then, I took it to a jeweler who also gave up on it, sent me away, it was stuck fast. That was a year ago. I threw it back into my drawer. This watch is over 15 years old and I had never replaced its battery. Of course it had stopped about 14 years ago! So today I retrieved it from my drawer and applied the pliers from my new Leatherman to the task and I got it off! I replaced the battery it's now happily ticking away. :tu:

Today I used my Kick philips driver to take apart a desk.

A couple of days ago I used my Sidekick to tighten up a loose bolt on the bottom of outdoor umbrella holder when putting away the lawn furniture for the season. :(

Picked a lock.  Ok, not really.  Used the ES4 flat driver to pry back the lock plunger doodad so I could open a locked closet door (no key).

Took apart a remote transmitter for an R/C toy to clean up the batt juice.  Filed off the crusty stuff from connections.  All is well now.

I just put in a new threshold under my front door; used my S2 to pull a broken drill-bit out of it that snapped when I unintentionally hit some grout on the edges of the tiles on the floor just inside the door jamb.
