Incredible 4Sevens Customer Service
on: August 25, 2012, 12:26:42 AM
So the other day I went to use my Quark Mini AA2, but it was dead. Turns out my son used it a couple of weeks earlier, and shoved it back in the sheath left on high. :ahhh

As you would expect the alkalines started a a chemical party in the center of the light's body. They didn't leak on either end, but they welded themselves in the body tube and are eating through the aluminum in the center.

Anyway, I dropped 4Sevens an email and asked about buying a replacement body, this is the answer I got from Trevor:

"Thank you for contacting us. Battery leak is not covered under warranty. That said, I can make an exception and send a body out to you."

I wrote back, telling how it happened, and asking to pay, and I got this response:

"I appreciate your honesty. Nevertheless, I've shipped a replacement today. There is no charge"

Well, isn't that something?  :tu:

Good to hear; my experience with them has been pretty good, with one exception.  They wouldn't take an exchange or a return on one of their lights I bought last summer that was supposed to be a neutral, but was clearly a cool tint.  They said tint variation is not a warrantiable issue...     I think it wasn't tint variation, but just that someone screwed up and put the wrong tint model in a neutral label box.

You should also look into the EagleTac 2xAA twisties... I've had one on my wish list for a while; their construction and F&F is supposed to be even better than the Quark Minis.

Oh, and never, ever, use alkies in any good light.  If you want to use disposables, go with Energizer Ultimate Lithium cells, or at least Energizer Advanced Lithium cells.  The 'ultimates' (commonly referred to as "L91's" by flashaholics are less than half the weight of alkies, and have about 3x the energy density.  They also have a 10 year shelf life so are good for emergency prep and back-up.  They're also guaranteed not to puke like alkies do.  Other than that, a good charger and set of Eneloops will set you back a bit, but is well, well worth it.

They are a very good light Al (of course now I'm going to have to buy some more :D)

I imagine that they are more than a few quid in the UK :-\

Never been a problem before, I check them regularly, and know their limitations, and if it wasn't for my son's mistake there wouldn't be a problem now. I like alkies, cheap (don't mind using them up) reliable, and available anywhere. Plus all the main brands stand behind them 100%, and will cut you a check for any damage they may do

I don't know, I think I would be too cheap to actually use my lights if the had expensive batteries in them...

Planning on a few of these in the near future. :salute:

Glad to hear they served you well. :tu: I had some problems with their CS last year and have read a few bad reports around that time but haven't heard anything bad lately so they probably did a bit to work on it.

*cough*123*cough*  :D   Any luck? :pok:

While a little pricey, the Maha C9000 is the best nimh charger on the market; they go for about $55 - $60 (US).  In addition to the regular recharge function, they also will analyze and refresh old cells, and they also have a break-in function for new cells as well.  Individual circuits too, so you can charge just a single cell if you need.
