Each link to a thread goes through Facebook?
on: September 24, 2012, 10:05:38 AM
During the past few days I noticed, on at least 3 computers, that when I view a thread (lets say one I choose from the unread posts lists) and then want to go back to what I was looking at (e.g. the unread list) I needed to press back twice.
It seems that there was an in-between, not appearing, site between the original thread and the one I wanted to look at.

Checking on the list that comes out when I hold the back arrow on Explorer 8 I found out that though this in-between site is not actually visited, it appears as facebook.com/dialog....

What is going on then? Is this a new thing or just a problem at my end? (note that facebook is blocked by many servers so this could cause problems to people)

There is a Facebook plugin for the forum that we have installed- there's a Like button at the top of each thread.  I wonder if that's what you are seeing?

May have something to do with that.
Basically the links work ok, but when I need to go back I need to click twice, quickly, to go back.

From where I am now Facebook is blocked, so I do not see the "like" button, though I remeber seeing it on other PCs.

I still do not know why I have to go through the Facebbok page to go to the link I want to?
Fair enough if it adds some income to the forum, by the way  :tu: .

Not a major problem, though I am worried whether multitool.org will also be blocked, if it is seen to go through Facebook all the time.

All facebok urls are blocked at my work too.  I've have to try today to see if I get the same behavior.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

I honestly couldn't tell you if that's what the issue is. Perhaps the all powerful Zuckerburg bought MTO when I wasn't looking?

I seem to be the only one having this issue, though I did encounter it on 3 different computers, out of which only one has Facebook blocked  ???

Seems to be some facebook error message page :www.facebook.com/dialog/oauth...

Maybe on non-blocked PCs I would get something different ?

Looking through the code, there is an asynchronous connection to facebook (connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js) to check your online status and stuff. That's in order to present you with the right set of FB options (e.g., like/send, etc.). If that connection is blocked it may appear as an intermediate url in your history.

Noscript for Firefox (windows) will solve the issue ;)
