New saw gadget just in.
on: October 12, 2012, 11:09:33 PM
I needed a bow saw for small log cutting, and this one has enough gadget coolness to me that I had to at least give it a try.

I've only played with it taking it apart etc so far. I'll update with a cut video tomorrow when I get some time.  So far then, I can only give it a half thumbs up so far until I actually cut wood with it.  I love how small it folds down to, and I think it could bungee on a pack just fine.  There is also room in the handle for extra blades, and I of course picked up 2 spares.  :D

I think the pics are pretty explanatory on how it works.  So here are many thousand words of pics.

I've been wanting one of those for a while too, to replace my Sven Saw.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Sven Saw just fine, but it's a little flexy on the bigger stuff.  We do a fair amount of camping in the Sierras, and sometimes the only stuff that's available is 6" dia. or larger, and if you try to muscle the blade on the Sven you end up with a curved cut.  (Ask me how I know...    )

Thanks for the pics!  Definitely going to have to bump that one higher up on my get-list!   :tu:

I have one of those tucked away somewhere too ... well a similar kind of thing anyway. Mine is red, assembles parallel, and doesn't have the extended handle (down past the blade) at one side. I do like it as a gadget, but personally I'd still be packing my Bahco Laplander or Opinel 120 to head for the hills  :D Mine also came with a hacksaw blade and a crosscut wood blade as well as the bowsaw (green wood) type, but a think they may have become separated from it now   :-[

For those who are tempted by one of these but don't have the funds right now ... remember with a SAK, a bit of paracord and a wire saw you can fashion together a bucksaw/frame saw with a few sticks lying around  ;)

I look forwards to your thoughts on it Spyh  :tu:
(and I'll try to dig mine out for some comparison shots for you)

If I lived near an MEC, I would be in there all the time :)

Looks like a really nice bit of kit, interested to see how it holds up.

I found a log to test, but its been pouring rain all weekend.  I've just been in my shop doing SAK work, but as soon as it stops I'll give it a test.  Its aluminum frame which is nice and light, but its hard to say how strong it is.  I like gadgets though so its already a win for me just because it folds down. :D
