tool to unscrew leatherman
on: October 17, 2012, 02:10:13 AM
Is there a specific tool to unscrew the leatherman fasteners with 20-or-so points?
Just think about modding and I'd rather not mash up the pivots for the tools

There's a thread for this somewhere on here that someone made their own sockets. THe idea is that you get a cheap socket set and use the LM and a vice to imprint the LM fastener pattern on the socket. If I remember, I'll search it and post it here or you can if you'd like to.

What fasteners are you referring to specifically?

If you have a couple of pocket clips they should work as wrenches on the screws

(there is a thread somewhere saying the newer clips don't work so well so I'm not 100% on this advice  )

I used small pliers with 'serrated' jaws but didn't do a great job

Also try heating up the screw to soften the lock-tight (some people use a soldering iron or hot water)  ;)

Good luck  :tu:

I can't remember the model off-hand now, but some of the older pocket clips have a hole to fit over these screws at fitting. Buy two of these clips and you have your tools.
There is one little thing to file off for a perfect fit as a tool.
It is not my idea, but I have seen it also some time back on this forum.
Regards
Johan

Looks like a job for a Shapeways guru.  3D print a tool in SS or Ti.
