our new resident expert (scribeer) gave me some tips on easy scale removal and "Waa Laa!"

that's an old spartan, and great for working on.
we have a mill and I'm gonna have fun! slots for
whatever I can think of and maybe a place somewhere
for a flint/firesteel bar! who knows, I'll keep you informed

Thats weird, what do people put in there and is there one on a Cybertool 41?

EDIT: Durr, translucent scales, all I had to do was look and yes there is, I dont think Im skilled enough with a dremel to make a proper looking opening though, Id need a very good suggestion before I took that risk.

Here's the pics of the slot in my Scibeer Woodsman. He trimmed down a second set of tweezers for the slot.

It would be best and cleanest to use a small flat file, or the edge of a file. Just take it slow--you can always remove more material, but you can't put it back!

Thats cool, I dont have any spare tweezers lying around though, only thing I could think of was carving up a waterproof match that could be struck on the file in an emergency, any other ideas?

What could also be done is to trim down the tweezers to fit in there and use the longer slot for a new feature if anyone has any ideas...

Cool, you got to it.

I use a small square file just a little samller than the opening. Like NutSAK says, don't be in a hurry. It needs to be a snug fit so keep testing as you go.

I thought about using the big tweezer spot for a little magnesium fire stick, but I didn't want to be the one cutting it down on a bandsaw or shaping it on the sander!!

recently I received an old spartan. I like it, simple, nice carry, modest tools. One of my more "worn" saks, personality right

today we were looking through storage and guess what? we find another spartan! way dirty and with lots of personality!

all the tools open and close fine, the little blade is broke (looks like a pry try)
needs sharpening and what you see now is after cleaning!
lol but damm these babies hold up in harsh conditions!

and is someone trying to tell me something?!
I'm not looking for spartans, but I'm getting them

I was thinking the same thing NutSAK! piece of cake I have a couple of belt sanders.

interesting little detail I noticed. on my two spartans, old and older!
the cork screws are different;

on the older one (top), it has bigger rings, and less of them, 4 loops
and on the newer one (still old), smaller rings and 5 loops.

I wonder if it was a complaint of pocket carry or sheath tightness
or to big for some corks so they made them smaller. I find it
interesting, trivial maybe but fascinating.

The one on the bottom is the older one. All current officer's knives have four loops in the corkscrew. The one with five loops should be older.

The wider one should be the newer one. They made the mini screwdriver to fit the new style.

interesting that makes sense; and the newer-newer ones have a toothpick and tweezer. plus less solid scales/more hollow pockets;
both of mine have solid scales and no pick n tweez.
