is it just me ?

perhaps i'm the only one, but do you feel 'cheated' if, when confronted with a small task that could be done with a 'multi' or SAK and you haven't got one ?
(yes it does happen !)

I never let that happen.  Ok, just kidding, it happened when I was on vacation and wasn't able to carry a multi with me and yes, I felt very cheated.

Yes.  I have been known to go all the way back to the house to get a SAK or group of MT's because I refused to just grab the tools at hand.  (Ok, it only happens when the weather is really nice, though).

TD you need to get into the habit of stiching a tool pouch into your PJs...in case you need your MT in the middle of the night :pok:

I have a SAK or multi on me as often as possible. If I know I'll be doing something where actual tools are required (helping somebody move, maintenance, repair, etc.) then I'll bring along a toolbox with the appropriate tools.
This is gonna hurt...

Seeing how you have done that too then I don't feel like I am nuts

WE ARE NUTS

I am in therapy  and I asked my shrink if  there's was something wrong with carrying this many SAKs and MTs
As I emptied my pockets.

She asked why I carried them znd I told her "you never know when you will need one or someone else will".

She looked at me and said "It is your gift to wanna help people there is nothing wrong with it."

I have never been ashamed of my SAKs but I have been ashamed of my need to help others.  NOT ANYMORE

I AM SWISS MAN AND MY SAKs AND MTs ARE USED FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL.

Yes, I have experienced this feeling!  Not often, but it has happened.

Last year when I was working at that little college in north Iowa, it happened pretty much every time I flew back and forth between Minneapolis and San Francisco, when I went home to see my family.

After a while I developed a strategy of doing a complete check of my pockets, personal bag, and carry-on after arriving at the terminal but before checking my duffel bag.  That way, I was as close to absolutely certain as possible I wouldn't be "donating" anything to TSA's trained chimps.  Unfortunately, from the time I checked my bag, to the time I could grab it off the carousel, I felt virtually naked.

sucks more when you need a tool and don't have it than to have it and not need it.

Fixed for you (sorry about the weak pun)  :D

I too seem to have the strong urge to help others.  But I tend to moderate it these days with a bit of education, eg if someone needs to change a wheel I get them to do it themselves with my help and advice (unless they are too physically weak).

As I pretty much have some kind of multi on me at all times it doesn't happen very often.  What does happen (and frustrate me) is when I find I'm carrying the wrong sort of multi e.g. I need to cut a hole in a wall and the multi I've got on me doesn't have a saw. >:(

I always carry a SAK/MT but I manage to feel ashamed when I choose to go "light" and carry a small SAK/MT and I happen to need some tool my current EDC SAK/MT does not have...

You know, like carrying a Climber and happen to need pliers or like carrying a Juice S2 and happen to need a saw...
