Freestyle rust issue.
on: August 08, 2011, 05:22:40 AM
Anyone else have a rust issue on the blade of the Freestyle. I ordered a Freestyle and Style CS in a combo pack and after 4 days of carrying the Freestyle the blade began to rust. I have heard of one or two other people with the same issue but I am wondering if it is more prevalent than that. So anyone else have the same issue?

I have several LM with that style blade of 420hc,and never had a problem,do you live around salt
water,or been cutting any citrus fruit with it??

It should clean up pretty easy, good luck, but if its badly rusted and that new, send it back, they have
a great warranty program. :salute:

Most of my MT's are 420hc as well and I have never had a problem with any other 420hc blades with the exception of the Freestyle. I do not live near the water or drop it in water or anything like that. I did not even use the blade once on the thing before it started to rust.

Anyone else have a rust issue on the blade of the Freestyle. ...

The Leatherman Freestyle and Skeletool have the same blade.

I noticed rust spots on the 420HC blade of my rarely used Skeletool today.  Though I oiled the entire tool after buying it, most of the Skeletool's life was spent inside a bedroom drawer.

The rust disappeared after a light, brief rub with steel wool and a recoating of 3-in-One oil.
