Just got a Fiskars Axe!
on: March 23, 2009, 04:03:11 AM
I am into Camping, Dirt Bike Riding, and Off-Roading and have somehow become the go-to guy when someone in my town gets stuck and needs recovery.

So, on the way to making my truck set up for any possible problem, I have bought a Fiskars Axe from the hardware store.

I havent tested it, but it seems pretty durable and heavy duty.

Does anyone else have any experience with this axe?

I was looking at Cabelas for Axes and they have the Gerber Gator series axes, but it looks like they are made by Fiskars and they are way more pricey than the Fiskars ones. What gives there?

I was at Sears Hardware and they had a good selection of these Fiskars axes. I think they are a bit cheaper than the Gerber branded ones over at Academy. Think the most expensive one was about 40 for the full size axe.

Picking one up and eyeballing it over it seemed to be made well and felt good in the hand. Might have to pick one up..for wood chopping or zombie showdown.

I have one. Works well enough for chopping firewood.

Hi I have a couple of Fiskers a Hatchet and a Tomahawk looking thing which the scouts think is well cool both are good lightweight options for camping and walking/hiking with hardly much weight to carry.
I love my leatherman tools like I love my lady an kids !
I just have a few more of them then the wife and kids lol :-)

I have one of the 28" chopping axes; great tool.  Bought it about 7 years ago and it's been totally bulletproof and reliable.

The stock edge mine came with was crappy, it was badly dinged and next to useless just two or three camping trips after I bought it (about 3/4 of a cord of wood chopped and split with it).

I took a file to it and re-profiled the edge to be a traditional convex grind and since then I've only ever had to touch it up.  Usually about once a year, at the beginning of summer, when we're getting ready for our first camping trip.

Otherwise, it's been totally reliable.  Great tool for the money.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

I picked up a Fiskars x7 last night at wal-mart. It seems to be well made...especially for being under 20 bucks. I read some pretty good reviews on the newer models...even watched some guy on youtube beat the hell out of one to prove its worth. Called destruction test...He uses the thing to beat a rock and cinder block into pieces.

Haven't used it yet so stay tuned.
