I'm thinking of buying one of these and was wondering if anyone owned one and would care to comment on it.

Its going to be floody with an XML emitter. I like floody lights myself. It has some good reviews on it that I have seen. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replys. I don't mind floody lights either, especially if I'm using it indoors. I ended up ordering one (neutral white) off ebay for $31.50 US shipped. I'm hoping it will be a good edc light.

I had an E03 with a neutral T5 emitter; it's a nice little light.  I gifted it to an aunt last summer though.  It's a good deal for the money but does have its drawbacks.  First, it's not regulated at all; as the cell depletes it will steadily decrease in brightness, on all levels.  The coating is only paint, it has no hard anodization, and the switch tends to be kind of cheap.  Mine came with an extra switch, but it wasn't any better than the one installed in it.  I replaced it with a better, aftermarket switch.

One really cool thing about the E03 is that it can run on a 14500 li-ion rechargeable, and when using one, it becomes a real cannon... OTF brightness on max is well over 400 lumens for the neutral one.  It is very floody, but with a li-ion cell in it, you'll get throw simply because of the sheer horsepower.

The only reason I gifted mine away is because I didn't like the lack of regulation; otherwise I'd have found a place for it to live somewhere, car glovebox, emergency kit, hiking pack, etc.  For me, regulation is a big deal, and I don't like not having it in a light.

When I was looking into buying a AA light I was reading some reviews and this caught my eye from the Candlepower forums:

Now this is interesting - the output/runtime performance pattern is remarkably similar to the Fenix LD10.

While it is true that max output on regular alkaline/NiMH is not as high as the LD10, the runtime curves look the same. And on Med, the output level and runtime is virtually identical (with a slight advantage to the E03, likely due to the R5 output bin).

Where the E03 differs is on how it handles 14500. On Med, the E03 is actually identical to the Fenix LD10 on all modes (i.e. direct drive). But on Hi, the E03 is even brighter than the Fenix (!), and on Lo has a reduced output level.

I assume the newer ones are regulated? I was ready to get another Fenix, but ordered this one instead.

I don't think they are.  That's one of the ways they keep the price down, by having a non-regulated driver circuit.  I could be wrong though... I'll see if I can find their page and check.

Edit: Here's a link to the place where I bought mine; there's no mention of regulation in the driver.  I'll keep looking and try to find Xeno's homepage... I had it once before, but can't remember what the URL is.

Edit 2: Here's the link to the product page on Xeno's website.  They specifically mention it has a linear driver; no regulation.

So it is. I was going by this review that I read and he did some run times and comparisons. Guess my wife may be right when she says I'm not too smart.
