Victorinox has done their best to imagine and predict the tools people might need, but there's no way they could ever guess all the uses that people would put all those pieces of variously shaped metal to.
While they've made orange peelers and fish scales and other tools that appear to have specific uses. None of the tools really do.

This is more evidence that one of the BEST planned, BEST designed SAKs ever made is the Pioneer. Although it might not be as fun as carrying a huge SAK full of tools (I'm guilty; I carry a Craftsman), the truth is that most of us could probably get by perfectly well by EDC'ing nothing but a Pioneer or Pioneer X

I just use the smaller blade to peel oranges, I just make one cut all the way around and peel the orange skin cleanly into 2 pieces. Why do some people cut a bunch of little crescent pieces out to peel like that?

Used my small blade to open the package...

...to my new Merkator cat knife!

which I'd ordered because I put those knives to hard use and I chipped the blade on my last one.

I use the small blade for the same. That new knife looks really nice too, I like the plastic slip it comes in.

Are you abandoning the original one? That blade should tidy up just fine, and give you many more years of use  :tu:

I agree. In fact, you could think of the 'chip' as a single serration.

K55 combo-edge :)

No?

Shush, you!
You're messing up my excuse for buying a new one. LOL!
I've been using the chipped one for awhile still. It's just not as smooth with the chip so I got the new one for cleaner, easier splicing.
But, no, I won't trash the chipped one. I'll rework it  a little and keep it on the tool bench. Besides, it was a gift from my brother-in-law 20 years ago. I actually only remember ever getting rid of one knife. Someone gave me a gothic looking dagger that was made in Pakistan and cheap quality. I'm not into gothic themes or carrying daggers so I have it away.

I used the SwissChamp metal file to tidy up the ends of my nails after cutting them. Pretty hard metal, just a few passes over amd they were smooth and even. Trouble is now I'm having a hard time opening the tools because my nails are gone

Since when has buying new stuff needed excuses?  :D

Good to hear the first one will be dressed back up and kept in service  :tu:

Oh yeah! Besides being a gift, that was my EDC knife before I ever started carrying a MT. My first EDC was a Buck 110 that I got for birthday or Xmas in the early 90's. Then I was given that Merkator cat a few years later. Even after I discovered Leatherman in the mid-90's--which I carried for years before changing to Victorinox--I still EDC'd the Merkator cat. Even after getting into Vic SAKs, it rode in the left breast pocket of my Filson Mackinaw Cruiser until about 7 years ago.
Come to think of it, I think that Merkator cat has hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of EDC time over any other tool I own. Maybe even more than the Buck. It's certainly seen more duty time than the Buck. The Buck 110 is too much knife for many everyday tasks.

For comparison, left to right: Buck 110, Merkator K55K, Victorinox Craftsman

These processed meat cans can be a pain to peel the top off of a lot of time. Tiny ring needing a bit ot pulling force. Thankfully I have a SAK now for better force transfer. Barely had to pull and it eased off nicely. The thickness of my SwissChaml makes it comfortable and a joy to use and hold.

For the short time that you have had your Swiss Champ, you are doing great at finding uses for it every day. It is so nice that you are constantly discovering the various ways it is useful in day-to-day situations. :like: :tu: :tu:

I used the pliers on my Spirit to pick up a piece of trash off the lot at work.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I'm surprised you have any fingers left with that file  :ahhh It's an excellent file, but a little on the aggressive side  :D
I'd suggest keeping your classic on your keys for that job  ;)

DUDETTE, the 91mm file is NOT for fingernails!!   Please follow Al's advice in the future and use the classic's diamond file

I think all my pocket knife did today, was open a pack of foil food tray thingies for making a batch of individual fish pies

Are these fish pies anything like our American fish sticks?
