Tank007 TK-703 Flashlight
on: November 25, 2012, 10:41:16 AM
I haven’t really written any reviews so far, so I won’t claim my following text is a review. Let’s just call it…. Comments after my first impressions : )

I received my Tank007 TK703 a few days ago. At first I was bitterly disappointed as the clicky wouldn’t work and no matter how many different batteries I tried, there would be no light or it would turn on only after several clicks. Better contact would appear only after I started unscrewing the tail cap. Strange. I figured I’d try to clean the contacts and this seemed to help. Since then it’s been working fine.

When I unscrewed the tail cap, it was really stiff and gritty. There’s an o-ring there, so perhaps the light is waterproof. The light operates with one AAA battery, but is a little longer than the average AAA light, just because it’s a clicky. Something which I found weird is that you have to insert the battery with the + towards the head although the spring is down there at the bottom and the – side stays in the tail cap. I was used to batteries being inserted the other way round i.e. the minus touching the spring.

The knurling is great and the light feels sturdy in general. It comes with an attached lanyard with “Tank007” on it. Despite being a clicky, it can tailstand because the clicky is recessed in the body tube without being inconvenient to press. It has one mode, so you turn the night into day just with one click :D Something I've been missing as I'd been using only my Olight i3 for a few months already and sometimes I wanted to get to the highest mode faster than it would allow me :D

The fact that the beam can reach about 70-80m isn’t exaggerated. I test those far-throwing flashlights from my balcony, as there are huge hills & rocks nearby. So from the building to this rock wall there are… the neighbours gardens, a road, some barracks and a little farther the railway, then a motorway and then the rocks. The Tank’s beam reaches the rocks. This is spectacular for one tiny AAA flashlight. I guess it does get about 100 lumens out of the battery as when I compare it to my Fenix E11’s high mode, they’re about the same. I’ve tried it only with one rechargeable battery, no idea what its capabilities with the other batteries would be.

It is supposed to have an hour of runtime, which I haven’t tested yet.

Mine is red and I love this colour. Almost identical to the red LM Squirt P4. I can even call the red version quite elegant.

In general, after the first disappointment, I’ve been happy with the light as it’s really powerful for something so tiny.

It doesn’t come with a spare battery or o-rings or split-rings or any special packaging. Mine had just a simple nylon bag and the box. It cost me $17.59 shipped.

I do like a AAA with clicky switch so this might have to go on my shopping list at some point.  Thanks for your thoughts.

Lol, good to know that it's a recurrent issue and not necessarily something wrong with mine :D

I've always been "afraid" of clickies as I've heard they break quickly and that day I thought: Oh, no, my nightmare came true   :D

Sturdy little things. How's the beam look compared to something name-brand?

You got anything you can take a shot of with it? :D

Btw, a disadvantage of the Tank007 K703 is the fact that it has throw, ok, one bright spot, but around this spot you aren't able to see much... The other day, going around our really dark neighbourhood, I was totally like: f***, this flashlight's going somewhere in a bag or drawer for emergency cases and not daily use. It illuminates a tiny part in front of you and, at least as far as I am concerned, makes it quite difficult to see the near surroundings. It even contributed to a slight headache due to the strain of my eyes, trying to see things around myself. I'm not a model, and after all haven't practised on a cat-walk.. lol

Try a sipik68 or clone (i.e. Ultraok).

They zoom so you can have a tight spot or Floody light when you need them.

You can do a simple and cheep conversion from a thrower to a pure flood light. And it's easily reversable if you need throw. :D All you need is Scotch tape, the mat one that you can write on. Cut a circle the size of the lens and stick it on. DONE.

Do you find the Tank overheats very quickly?I use mine in poorly lit stock rooms at work, and after about 3min,it starts heating quite rapidly

No, mine doesn't, but I've used it for that long just once. I usually light up something quickly and turn lights off.
