Spyderco Sharpmaker angle

Spyderco Sharpmaker angle

Hi guys,I am getting a Spyderco Sharpmaker but I'm a little confused. Spyderco have said 40 degrees but leatherman have said they are 32 degrees.
What do you guys use?

Watch the DVD, you'll understand it a lot more.

Basically, sharpening at 40* on a 32* grind will be ideal.

Set it to the 40 degree angle (20 per side) and it will come out razor sharp. I've been using my sharpmaker for years on my Leathermans.

I do my knives by hand at approx 21°

Had thought all Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmakers had a large manual & DVD video to explain the many sharpening methods this sharpener can accomplish. About the only thing I found that it cannot sharpen are curved cut cooks.


30° Back Bevel: Puts the primary edging on a blade, blank, or an abused/banged up blade.

This step is normally not used while there is a surface to put a cutting edge on.



40° Edging: Putting the actual cutting edge on after creating a shoulder from Back Beveling.




Scissors Sharpening
