The wai-yayting is the hardest part
on: December 29, 2012, 03:04:48 AM
With a tip of the hat to Tom Petty for providing the title to this thread, it is now time for us to start waiting.

While letting Daisy run around at the local dog park a few days ago we ran into a group of people that we know that run an organization called the East Coast German Shepherd Rescue.  They were there walking a few of their dogs as well, and we spent some time talking to them.  While we were there we met a small shepherd cross named Eddy.  He's ten months old and about half the size of Daisy.  He seems to be reasonably well trained and has some nice markings.  Kim fell in love with him and I was rather taken myself.

We have filled in the adoption form and now we are just waiting on the results.  I'm sure we are great candidates, and we know the folks in this organization, they know us and they know Daisy so I imagine there won't be any problem to add him to our little family.  Still, I never believe anything that I can't put my hands on....

Wish us luck!

Thanks Nate- we haven't mentioned it to anyone yet, except for the folks we listed as references.  I'm not sure I'm ready for another dog yet, but I'm not sure I'll ever be ready, you know?  Meanwhile too many dogs are homeless, so I feel I should step up to help them.

Plus Daisy will enjoy having a little brother.

Oh, that is exciting news :D

It's never going to be the same as the relationship you had with a dog you have been with for years, but it can be just as wonderful in it's own way given time. Sounds like a fab pooch, if it's meant to be he'll end up home with you!

Gotta love small cities.  I work with the woman who is checking my references. She knows me quite well.  It's not her decision but it looks good and she's pretty much just rubber stamped it.

I should hear back later this afternoon or tomorrow.

The application went through!

Not that I doubted it would, but I find trusting the people around me to be.more disappointing than I'd like so I never believe something until I can put my hands on it.  Which, all going well, I should be able to do tomorrow.

I'd try for tonight but I'm just home for a few minutes to quickly eat supper then back to work again.

Yup- apparently little Eddy is suffering from some runny poop and a mild ear infection.  Not a big deal but they have offered to cover a vet visit if we like.  I was planning to take him to the vet this week sometime anyway just to be on the safe side, so it's nice they are going to look after it.

The rescue organization we got him from has posted his photo on Facebook. I shared it but until I get to a computer I won't be able to post it here.  Maybe someone on my FB can post it in the meantime?

It's a good photo, although it really doesn't show off much more than the intricate details of the markings on his face.

so... will he be renamed Eddy van Howlen? Or perhaps a spelling change to your other favourite mascot... Eddie (Iron Maiden)

 :pok:

Actually I'd been spelling it Eddie rather than Eddy until I got the info from the Rescue.  To me, Eddie should always be spelled with an ie- it doesn't look right spelled Eddy so yes, it will probably change.  Not that it matters, what's spelling to a dog?  :D

We are waiting on the adoption contract.  As soon as we have that we'll print it out, sign it and head off to his foster home to pick him up.  Apparently he's made quite the impact in the short time he's been fostered by them- the lady was crying on the phone last night just talking about giving him up.
