Blunt Nose Tools
on: December 29, 2012, 11:39:41 PM
Can anyone recommend me a multitool with blunt nosed pliers? I had a Gerber MP600, may get another one unless there are better options.

Thanks,

Tyler

I wish more makers would include a blunt nose option.  That was one of the best features of the old Schrade multitool.

There's other discontinued blunt nosed tools too if you can track one down. Swissgrip, Minigrip, Toolclip ...

I ground the rebar heads on a bench grinder but I found out that it can be milled with carbide tools!

I have a bunch of wave heads I can mill off and send one to you?

Another really good option is the discontinued SOG Power Plier.  Blunt nose plus compound leverage is hard to beat.  They are available for a good price on ebay, I think I have several more of the Power Plier than I need.

Just about to fill up the list...wenger plier based are also blunt, but for brute force, oldtimer SOG PP with buttery' feel.
SwissGrip is another big &  brute old timer. :salute:

My favorite blunt-nose multi is the old SOG ToolClip :tu: They can still be obtained rather easily on eBay (although for heavens sake don't buy one of the many cheap imitations that are out there)

...i want to add, if you did not do your research well  and there is no size reference, you might end up with a Micro toolclip....
Guess how i know.  Yes, i could have looked at pics before in teh review section, and yes, i could have waited with my bid, but it was late nd i had read a thread about teh Toolclip on here shortly before...

But the Micro toolclip is a cute tool.

May i, getting back to topic, ask what is speaking against a new MP 600, maybe with the Carbide cutters? Apart from outside opening tools, it offers all i asked for in the last ~15 years. Then i joined here....

I believe all the ones I can think of have already been mentioned, hope one of them is good for you.  It is something that would be a nice option on more MT's though.  After-all if Leatherman can make a pliers head with a cap-crimper and think it adds some appeal surely a blunt nosed version could sell well?

I have never understood why the Cap Crimper is standard on the TTi, or why the really even offer it.  I mean, that has got to me one of the *most* duty specific features they could make, why mass produce it?  We can't get a bit driver on the blast, but we have a CC.  We can't get an Awl on the Wave/Charge, but we can have a CC.  I work a bit more with things that need, um, Awl-ing and hardly ever touch C4.  I mean, never.   ::)

I can't ever seem to find those Bob, what search term should I use?  "SOG tool clip" seems to pull everything up except a sog tool clip.

Try searching for "SOG toolclip", without the quotes,  toolclip one word (no space between tool and clip)

I snagged one on evilBay recently, so they do come up from time to time.

Yeah, none listed right at the moment, but search "completed auctions" and there have been about 10 of them sold in the past few months. Selling price ranged from $34 all the way up to $106 for one with an Eddie Bauer logo. ::)  Keep your eye out, I'm sure there will be another one listed shortly. :)
