Leatherman Sheath Problem.
on: December 30, 2012, 05:10:23 PM
I bought a genuine Leatherman leather sheath a week ago and it already broke. I decided to upgrade it to the Maxpedition Single Sheath. This thing is so nice and sturdy I even have room for my 4Sevens Preon 2 on the side.

LM sheaths are usually up to a bit more use than that! I might consider getting a refund if that's possible.

As for the Maxp Single, they are quite a nice fit for what you have in there :)

I've been thinking about a nice universal sheath to keep on my work belt and that maxpedition might just be the answer. :tu:

OK, so seeing as you are both carrying a Wave in there, just how much wiggle room is there?  I do like the look of the sheath but don't like the idea of the MT rattling around too much.

I don't think that will be a problem. I have two of these attached as side pockets to the  webbing straps on both sides of my Maxpedition Neat Freak. The sides of the sheath are creased inwards to make a snug fit for any sized tool and there is an elastic band around the case itself as seen under the flap. I just tested mine with a variety of tools. I tried an avergae sized folding knife, my Skeletool (both pretty thin) and my Core which is one of Leathermans larger tools. All fit well thanks to the elastic side and inwards folds. The case sort of snugs up on anything. The drawback of course is that it takes a bit of force to get any tool in past the stiff cloth and elastic. Over time it should soften with use.

I like the flap construction as it adjusts to any height of tool, short or tall. No chance of anything falling out. The narrow elastic bands, rather that long elastic sleeves allows for better side carry options too. Most flashlights are a tight fit in the elastic sleeves on a LM case but these have a lot of wiggle room for larger diameter lights.

Might need one now just for belt carry too so as not to rob my existings ones off of the Neat Freak.

SORRY lol...... Perfect with just the wave. A little tight with bit kit, one sleeve of bits is doable.

I did find that as well. While it will go as wide as a Core (Super Tool 300 roughly) and a single bit card that is about the limit on width. Height is not an issue. On my Neat Freak/Single Sheath pair setup I use one sheath for the "tool of the day", the other sheath for a few bit kit cards and an extension.

It will fit my Surge or MUT, and the elastic sides pulls everything in nice and tight with no rattle.

As you hopefully can see from the picture the leather strap on back that the belt runs through is mostly broken and is hanging on by a thread. That is only after one week.

I don't think the sheaths are normally covered by the warranty but I suspect Leatherman would still do something about replacing it. :)

I was very lucky to get a Skinth for xmas and it's top dollar stuff - no extra weight or nonsense going on, just a well made bit of kit :tu:
