Leatherman PST age?
on: January 19, 2013, 03:10:30 AM
I know that the Leatherman PST was made between 1983 and 2004.  I also know that in 1999 a court decision ruled that the Leatherman trademark did not protect the design.  I don't know when the trademark was removed from the PST.  Does anyone know what some of the indicators are for determining how old a PST is?

Have you checked the stickies? I'm on the phone right now so I can't link but there is a thread on top of this forum documenting all the changes and when they were made.

Take a look inside the handles.  It should have a date code. Mine's dated 0204/0304.  It'll be under the tools, you'll have to lift them up a bit to see it.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

Nothing at all in there. Does that mean something in itself?

I think Leatherman began doing date codes in 1992, though I could be wrong on the year.  Other than that I really can't help you much, though the PST chronology thread will help you out I'm sure. :tu:  The date code would have made it too easy.......

Reading it now, but it will take time to get thru it. Wish there was a handy reference for this purpose.

Put more pictures if it will be possible to determine the exact date of manufacture. If you have the handles in metric and inch tape, then produced from 1988 to 1992, unless the inch, then 1985-1988. Can not be identified by your photo type of knife and awl.

I checked the PST timeline, and I'm OK with "late eighties."
