What is the best wireless router?

I was just wondering what wireless router do you think is the best? Right now, I have Linksys and I personally think it sucks! I have to reset it frequently! I am thinking about buying a NetGear router over the weekend... Any ideas?

     Those I have know who have a netgear wireless router have had problems with them.  Hard to get up and running hard to keep running.  Have you tried upgrading the firmware on the router and possibly changing the frequency if someone is using the same one it may be causing your problems.

I think all the upper end ones are roughly comparable; the lower end ones are also roughly comparably crappy.

I can speak from experience that D-Link customer service is only a little better than getting tortured by thousands of rabid gerbils. Ok, that's not strictly true; there was one guy I talked to out of five conversations who was very decent. So in my experience, 20% of the time it's a lot better than getting tortured by rabid gerbils.

Well, I've installed many.... and replaced many!    IMO Linksys is the most reliable. Your mileage may vary.

I have a Netgear and have set up many other brands for other people.  Out of them all Netgear was by far the best and has been very reliable.  I don't think I have ever had a problem with it in it's 18 months of use.

Yup love Netgear routers, especially the DG834 series (think thats the right number) Never had any trouble with them. The one at uni had been on for 6 months straight without a reset and no problems until the other day when i needed to sort out my cabling.

My ISP provided 2wire router, been using it for almost a year now without problem.

My Linksys has been a total pain for 2 1/2 years now.   Resets almost everyday and as soon as it gets warm, it won't work without a fan blowing on it constantly.

Maybe netgear is in my future.

Why didn't you return it? I've only had to reset a few Linksys routers over the past year for all of my clients combined.  Netgear isn't bad but I recommend Linksys over Netgear since I've had less maintenance with Linksys.

I've had 100% reliability from the Linksys routers I've owned and installed.  I really like the older models (WRT54G series), because the firmware is built off the Linux platform and thus is open source.  There are some great aftermarket firmwares available for them that allow many more tweaks than the stock version.

I have heard of some heat issues with the Linksys stuff, as Scibeer mentioned, but only if the unit was not allowed to breathe properly.

I'm running a WRT54G with the Thibor HyperWRT firmware and it hasn't failed me in 4 years of non-stop operation. Linksys every time for me.
