Did you by chance happen to measure the weight difference of the Deluxe Climber between the brass and aluminum liners?

I didn't think to weigh the knife before disassembly.  I do, however, have a Deluxe Tinker which should have a similar weight (my guess is that the Phillips tool is maybe slightly heavier than the Corkscrew but that should be the only difference).  So tonight, I weighed the stock DT at 122 grams and the modified brass liner DC at 153.

Not sure how accurate the scale is.

Cool. I like them big and heavy. I have an old Spartan from the 40's and it weighs 79 grams. I have a new modern Spartan with plus scales that weighs 61 grams. I think the majority of the difference is in the liners. One has aluminum and the old one has nickel silver I think. Some difference, must come from the old solid fiber scales vs the new plastic ones. Also the tools are a little thicker on the old one.

Is nickel silver preferred over brass?  I considered using it early on, but (1) I like the color of brass and (2) my local supplier doesn't carry it.  It is available online for roughly double the cost I paid for C260 brass plus the shipping charges are egregious.

Also, the measured difference between the stock Deluxe Tinker and the modded Deluxe Climber is only 31 grams: about an ounce.  Is that considered a big difference?  When I hold the two knives at the same time, the DC does feel a bit heavier, but not objectionably so.  Truthfully, I didn't notice the difference until you mentioned it.

I prefer brass too. The knife gained over 20% in weight. That wouldn't bother me any.

Ya nickel silver is a good material, but I love the look of polished brass liners!  :D

Me too - all the modern ones are silver so I think it makes your mods stand out as something new and special :tu:
