Ok I've found a bit more out , this British Army website http://www.army.mod.uk/news/21229.aspx. States "Other gear, such as the Gerber multitool, is so advanced that it is not yet available commercially in this country."  Could this be the black Crucial ?

Bare in mind the article is dated August 2010

Designed for the British Army?  That's news to me, where did you read that Dunc?  I'd be disappointed if they were as I'm not a big fan of the Crucial in any guise.  I seem to remember hearing the the MP400 was issue to some troops but can't recall where I'd heard that.

There's a few mentions of it on websites but I've only just noticed it today myself , from what I've read it could be both models

I can't find where I read it was designed for the British army but I doubt that was true , it does however look like the crucial in some shape or form is issued to some members of the army on deployment . Quite how I've missed this before is beyond me as I'm interested in military issue tools  ::)

Gerbers are the ones I have seen coming up for sale used, described as ex-UK military issue, but I'm not sure of specific models.
