I have no idea when my Rancher was made! Any help?
on: February 08, 2013, 12:45:22 AM
Hello!

I just got a yellow / gold old cross , unpolished bottle opener , and I think brass liners rancher.
It has the Bugnard Outillage Lausanne add on the etching plate.
I m getting to really like it!! and I would like to ask if anyone can help my learn when it was made!

Any ideas?

Hard to tell from these pics but the liner appears nickel silver to me, not brass. Brass would look in this condition much darker, like dark brown. Light yellowish brown indicates nickel silver.

Is the center rivet steel (is it gray and attracts a magnet?) or nickel silver (yellow, like the two end rivets are, and does not attract a magnet)?

Is the cap opener/screwdriver combo tool polished or unpolished?

Bugnard is a Swiss tool co. Vic made a special run of about 5 models of 93mm alox for them. SwissBianco was selling the whole set several years ago & SwissBianco-Canada had some of them up on ebay several days ago. I don't think they're very old.

The cap opener is unpolished i think, there are parallel lines through the whole tool.
I think the center rivet seems steel, it is gray an not the same looking like the other two.
Probably you are right about the liners too!

Any estimate Marius ?? :)

I really like this SAK , want to get to know it!!

There are many edition of Bugnard Victorinox alox, I believe this is one of the oldest since the logo says Lausanne only , later the logo is Bugnard - Lausanne - Zurich, aslo old cross and unpolished cap opener.

There are even selling them new I guess in the Swiss tool shops!

From what you tell this may be anywhere from mid 80s to beginning of 2000s. Hard to tell... Maybe jazzbass or others to know.

Enjoy it no matter the year!

I'd say it's from the 80's, 1988, no date stamped on blade?

No no date stamp,
I guess my best bet will be to find when Bugnard opened in Zurich, my SAK seems to be made when it was only running in Lausanne I guess!

Hehe I m enjoying too much thats why I got obsessed :P

Got it clean , snappy , and RAZOR sharp!!
Put it into use fixing a blank piece of wood for a door repair at my parents house!! :D
