Old Charge scales on new Charge?
on: April 25, 2013, 08:06:06 PM
Hello everyone!  I am wondering if anyone knows if the scales from the retired version of the Charge TTI will fit on the new TTI.  Also,  was that the only change that was made to the MT for 2013?  I have been searching the forums and have seen some info about the new scales but haven't found this info yet.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't fit.  Leatherman has said that the change was purely cosmetic, and changing the dimensions of the handles and/or tools would be costly.

oh, and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. :waving:

As far as I remember, the Surge got an update, the Charge just got new scales. I don't think anyone here has the new Charge yet though. Or maybe I missed something.

I do!  :ahhh
Don't have the old one though, so can't compare and say for sure just the scales have been changed.
But as Breezy and enki said, Leatherman have said that just the scales changed.

I have a New TTI on order that should be delivered in a few days.  I do prefer the look of the old scales but I won't really be sure until I have it in hand.

This was from a comparison of the new and old charge by armèe-suisse , you can find the thread at charge owners club.

so the new one's a bit fatter, but nothing else has changed and the blades aren't any more recessed?

Interesting. It's like they're allowing for more clearance inside for something, and the only thing that springs to my mind is a plier head. That may just be wishful thinking!

It looks like the scales are the one thing that are wider. Likely it covers more of the blade which I welcome.

It's possible that they made the handle wider like the new surge, maybe they are solving the internal scissor issues I ran into a while back.
