It's been days since you've cleaned house. You decide it's time for a good scraping. You start out slow, surveying the scene, if you will. So far so good, the stuff that comes out is like Play Doh--somewhat soft and easy to clump together. Yet it isn't too runny as to crust up your thumb and index finger as you roll it.
You keep on going... Still no problems. The booger remains semi-hard and clings well between your fingers. Better be careful though, 'cause you're in your bedroom and the rug is earth-tone; you drop that sucker and it's gone for good!
Uh-oh... Trouble! You come up on a dry, crusty, piece that fails to meld with the main glob. If you're really unlucky, that dry piece will have a wet, slimy drop hanging on it. Such raw material is useless, lest you like having crusty fingers. Try as you might, that piece just won't stick to the main project. 'Tis better to cut your losses and dump the defective chunk (on a nearby emergency kleenex) and move on. Rolling two separate boogers at the same time is best left to the masters.
The work continues... Your booger is now the size of a 0.20 caliber BB and is a nice hazel color. "Most impressive," you say to yourself. Ordinarily you'd feel quite content producing such a fine, robust piece, but you're feeling lucky today and decide to reach for the stars. Only now the quality parts are getting pretty scarce. Consequently, your scraping becomes deeper, more intense... Then it happens... You pull out a piece streaked with red. Bad luck perhaps? You try again... Another red morsel, and this time, your fingertip is red also.
Sigh... Time to call it quits.
The quest for the perfect booger continues...
