Put scissors into a Charge ALX? Sure why not?....
on: February 20, 2013, 05:37:00 PM
Last night, I gave modding my Charge ALX a shot.  I wanted to remove the mini-driver and can opener and put in the flat driver and scissors.

Flat driver? Not a problem.

Scissors?  Well, that's a problem.  As it turns out, placed one way, there is no good way to close the tool and the scissors handle fouls the edge.  Put in the other way, the scissors fold normally, but the driver runs into a little bump in the liner/lock mechanism.  I've filed part of the driver body away, which helps some, but I need to dremel out a small, discrete area, so that it will drop all the way in.

Not a clean mod, but I'll see if the driver holds up.

No pictures yet, but hope to have some tonight.

Well, I finally have the troublesome bit driver sorted.

So this is the final filing out of the driver.  It's more than is actually necessary:

This image shows you where one actually needs to file or dremel out material.

On the right side there is a litte divot.  This is the mark for where one has to remove material to get the driver to set flat.  With a 2-3 mm file or dremel, making a groove just here, instead of the big divot I made, will do the job.

It seems to be sturdy enough, a little non-beautiful, but unless I end up with a donor tool at some point, I don't see any reason to try to replace this one.

:D

Admit it. YOu just wanted to remove the can opener to avoid another can opener debate. ;)

Good modification. :salute: Do you have to pull out the bit driver to open/close the scissors though?

No.  Everything works perfectly.  The key is placing the driver on the "wrong" side AFTER filing/dremeling out the spot where the lock spring sits
