Diesel or Mp600 pro scout?
on: February 20, 2013, 05:06:40 AM
I have been looking at both of these for fishing but am not sure which to get. I am leaning toward the diesel but the mp600 has a few advantages too. The pliers on the 600 look a little bit slimmer and it includes a ruler which might be useful. I don't like rattly tools and the diesel is supposed to be more solid but the buttons used to slide the diesel look tiny. Can anyone recommend one or give me some reasons to choose one or the other?

Tough one , I have never owned a diesel so I'm afraid I'm not much help but I can tell you the MP600 is a good solid tool. Yes there is the rattle but that is part of the design and not a fault or weakness. Either way they are good solid tools and the one handed plier opening is ideal for fishing  , the Diesel has scissors as standard but if you go for a MP600 I suggest you get one with scissors which will be usefull for fishing line and may I also suggest a version with replaceable wire cutters because large fish hooks could dent the standard wire cutters.

I have never owned a Diesel, too.
Nonetheless, I´d go for the MP 600. There are many diffeernt models to choose from and if the perfect tool combination is not already available. You can mix and match.
There even is a "fisherman" iirc, with longer needlenose, diamond file with hook sharpener groove and so on.
I do have a Pro Scout that i tested for a while as my EDC, but i decided on the Sportsman (i believe) for the Awl as i use it more often than a Remgrit saw in my daily work.

Its available for trade, just saying...

There is indeed a fishing MP600 you might want to look at.  Personally I got a Pro Scout myself after looking at the Diesel, better Phillips on the MP600 IMO.  I am no angler though so your needs might be differant to mine.

Thanks for the responses. I knew about the fisherman models but I just want the standard needle nose pliers so I can use the multitool for other things.

The MP600 Pro Scout is my favorite large multitool.  I've never had a hint of a problem with it or felt overwhelmed doing a task with it.  :tu:
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

I'd not noticed but I really can't think of anyone who does carry (or even talk about) the Diesel.

The only time I think I've seen the diesel on here is in the background of a photo of someone's huge MT collection

I have both the Diesel and Pro Scout. I carry the PS while fishing up at our cabin and the Diesel stays around home for weekend use.  You would not go wrong with either, as the ability to flik the pliers out for use while a large pike is flopping in the net cannot be matched by any of the other fine Multi's available.

Do not have a Diesel to compair to the Pro Scout. I'm a big fan of the Pro Scout.    :)
