I contacted the seller about this counterfeit (how about that off-center too-high shield?! - not to mention the extra leather punch on the back) and he claimed he didn't know  - "They were given to me."

Real SAKs are so cheap for what you get, I just dont see the point in making or buying fakes.

I agree.  With saks as cheap as they are in the states I cant imagine considering a fake.  I can go out and spend under $30 and get a decent vic anywhere in town.

Their cost is probably very low, using the lowest quality material. If people can create fake eggs, they can create fake anything.

I saw that documentary, I think it was called the fake trade.  I dont want to bash the whole country of china, but it is pretty darn common there to rip off ideas and make fakes.  They dont respect IP or feel its wrong in any way.  The part I found disgusting about the toxin laden fake eggs, was that guy was PROUD of the fact he could fake an egg to make money.

Its one of the reasons I look down on china made steel products.  I know some are actually decent now, but they dont need my support.  North american, swiss, swedish etc made knives and tools do need my support and I will always be wililng to pay more for quality made tools and knives.
