  • Betcha I could go 24hrs without betting...aww crap
By price and feature, my Nebo Redline SE 5615 ($22.99 Amazon) is best value I've bought.

Pretty damn durable (for a non-tactical light), runs on 3 AAs, throws a lot of light for the $, has zoom focus, good belt clip, fits your palm, doesn't eat batteries, and fits your palm.  I own several (glovebox, toolbox, workroom, kitchen) as they save my tactical light from overuse.

So what's your best value light???  Consider cost and what you get out of it.

Pirates, historically speaking, were some of the finest and most dedicated Multitool guys ever.  They commonly cut their limbs off just to take advantage of Multitool capabilities: e.g. Captain Hook, Long John Silver, Pegleg Pete, the list goes on and on...

Good question.  In fact I might have to give that some serious thought.

Hmm...

I've got a rubbish cheap one with a zillion LEDs that runs from three AAA batteries, and it's good because it lives in my toolbox and I don't mind lending it/loosing it/killing it. So its value is in protecting my better torches.

I have a Fenix E05 that's with me all the time so despite not being my "best" torch is the one that gets used most - much like an MT I guess. The value of it is being available all the time.

Then there's my Petzl Piza headtorch which during the winter I couldn't do my job without (I used to have a cheaper Energiser one. It got through batteries much faster and it fell to bits) and is indestructible. So its value is being able to be relied upon to enable me to work outside in the dark in all conditions.

No question that the Fenix LD10 is the least good value, whilst being the "best" torch, it's the least used - but that's not the point of the thread!

I think out of the three above, the E05 would probably be the value winner. In build quality and light output per pound it's the best and if one of the others gave up it could fill their shoes temporarily. The same couldn't be said for any of the others.

OK, I think it's going to be my ThruNite T10.  Can be found for a little over $20, small enough to go on my keyring, mode memory, workable high (115 Lumen), firefly (0.1 lumen) and nice beam pattern.

I like my Eagletac D25A Clicky more, but that costs twice as much.

ITP A3 SS. It lives on my keys, and is with me everywhere. Based on this, it is my best value light.

+1 Same here. I bought it back in September 2011 and it has been on me ever since, either on the keychain, the Skinth side pocket or just loose in the pocket, a true EDC light. :salute: I wish olight made the i3 in SS.

I have a few Thrunites which are great budget lights (as Gareth pointed out), but to throw something different in the mix, I'm going to say my Petzl e+lite

I know a lot of people don't like coin cells, but I think it's an excellent cheap(ish) lightweight piece of kit, and more useful than my Thrunites when trying to do something that requires two hands

Possibly too many, but it depends on the use:

Keychain: Tank 007 E09. Robust, bright, small, cheap, bright on NiMh, can also use lithiums

Medium: Sipik 68 style UltraOk. Nicely spread beam, single mode, small, excelent for looking through cupboards, bright on NiMh, can also use lithiums

Large: Trustfire TR3T6. So much light, solid, dependable, can run on 2 or 3 lithiums.

Brand: Romisen brand. Very good quality and only a bit more expensive than unbranded torches. Look basic and feel solid. In an emergency I usually grab one of them.

(There is a thread in the review section in which I have posted aboutsome lower cost torches, so anybody interested have a look there)
